Moves and Moans

Sometimes , I best remember a performance seen on video or TV screen due to a mere gesture, sound, outfit, opening trick, that is -made to help  emphasizing the special essence of that performance.

Charles Aznavour's performance of his famous song "Hier Encore", will always be remembered by me for the singer's...moans;  yes, moans.

Aznavour was accompanied by two young, beautiful female singers. Whenever it was the turn of each one of them to sing, he raised his eyes up to the young girl, and...moaned. The moans were to express suffering and pain at his lost youth (the subject of his song).

The entrance to singer Cher's show 'Dove Lamore' (in italian, Where's Love) features a guitarist, and a male dancer. The later performs some electrifying moves and steps. One rarely has the chance to view such a mesmerizing act before the actual show begins ( here, the show of Cher's song, and her lady dancers).

The above are only two examples; there are some more in the mentioned category.

  2. These two are epic in their own right. Yes, what an intro in Cher's performace with the guitar and the dancer! And of course, someone knows how to set the standard with Hier Onchore! Such fabulous songs! Thanks so much!

  3. It is wonderful when the director/performers capture the essence of the work in simple (and telling) ways.

    1. Yes, it is. Even more so, when the capture ways are simple and catchy.

    1. You're welcome, Jeanie. Aznavour and Cher are great singers. Yet, for a performance to stick with you, it has to have some special elements that catch the eye in seconds.

  6. Sometimes, we are impressed by the most unexpected things. I was impressed by Aznavour's 'moaning'. In the second video, I was impressed by the male dancer's act, at the opening of a show overcrowded with dancers of both genders.

    1. Things that seem to be either trivial, or only the 'seasoning' of the show, might indeed make the show memorable. That's interesting.

  9. I would gladly watch an entire show of that male dancer, he is brilliant. Powerful understated dancing.

      I also consider him brilliant.

  11. It sounds like humming to me. Even though his mouth is open. ; )
I love flamenco! Having lived less than 100 km from the border, we used to go to Spain often.
Cher is one of my favourite performers.
Aznavour was a great singer as well. La Bohème... I still listen to it.

    1. You may be right about humming. I'm not a native of English , so not very good at nuances. I think, however , moaning is more suitable here, as the singer wishes to convey his pain and regrets for his vanished youth.

    2. Your English is excellent, Duta. : )

    1. True, Arieth. The human voice is a great asset. When I was young I could sing beautifully, but age and the viccisitudes of life have changed that.

  15. Wow, both videos were amazing. Aznavours voice is perfection, even for his age. I'd never heard of him before. Cher...what can I say, I have always loved her and her voice, so distinctive, so pure. But that male dancer almost steals the show...almost. Thank you for sharing these, just amazing!

never heard of Aznavour:) He's french of azerbidjan descent, famous as a singer, composer, lyricist.
The male dancer is mind blowing, in my opinion.

    2. Well in my defense I grew up listening to Mexican music and I've never been much of a music lover. But I do love Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli and now Aznavour, thanks to you!

Placido Domingo and Andrea Bocelli are great opera music performers! Thanks for mentioning them.

    1. I don't think so, Haddock. Perhaps it's some sort of publicity. I couldn't find on Youtube the video which doesn't mention daughter and granddaughter. It has disappeared.

    1. Sonny and Cher were a famous singing duet in the 60-s and seventies (until 1975 when the two separated). She was a good singer then, and good afterwards.

  21. Of course I know Aznavour he performed very often in Brussels, I heard his songs on the radio but he was not very interesting to me I preferred more Elton John, Freddy Mercury etc style. Cher I only know because she has so many beauty surgeries that she almost looks as she looked in the beginning of her career !
