Crocks

It was love at first sight- me and the casual crocs shoes. They immediately caught my eye and conquered my feet: lightweight, comfortable, roomy (my feet are small but wide and the toes need room) easy to slip into and out, holes for ventilation, great variety of colors. Not cheap, as they are made of Crosslite which is an expensive material.

Over the years, I found out , to my surprise, that for me, crocks are not only the best for outdoor light walking , but also the best indoor shoes. It appears that all the various sorts of house shoes are too light and soft, and might cause an elderly person to slip and fall. Crocks, on the other hand, (the first, classic brand) are more solid, without being heavy.

I choose dark colors  (black, blue) for outdoors , vivid colours (such as orange, pink), for indoors. Although they are not considered  very healthy (lack arch support, the plastic structure might cause sweaty feet), everyone I know loves them: kids, teenagers, adults, elderly.

Crocks are versatile and the outdoor shoes come in various sizes and styles   (with or without laces, with or without platforms, sandals and even crocks with...heels) . Something for everyone.

  1. They have been popular for almost 20 years. That is what people say, they are comfortable. Foot specialists don't recommend them for all those reasons you pointed out. I never bought a pair.

    1. Right. Their popularity goes back to almost 20 years. Look, Catarina, at my age I have to listen to my body, not to the experts. My feet like them, and that's all there is to it.

  2. That is so interesting that you like them. I know they are all the rage in California where I live and all my nieces and nephews love them. One niece wanted to buy me a pair and she had me try hers on and I could not wear them. I don't know if they make different types, but the ones she had had a ton of tiny little dots on the inside sole where your feet lay and they hurt my feet. She said they were massaging points and they felt wonderful to her, but I have very sensitive feet. Maybe I need to look into different versions of crocs.

    1. Hi Alicia; glad to hear from you. I wear the basic, classic type of crocks.
I think, however, 'messaging points' are wonderful ! You should give it a serious try.

    1. Well, Mary, perhaps it's time to try a pair and see if it's comfortable for your feet.

  4. I've tried Crocs, but found that arch support is VERY important to my feet.

    1. I suppose crocks are not for everyone. I got attracted to them because of their wide front (where the toes are). I've got wide feet and need adequate space for my toes.

  5. Ever since I was hospitalized for pneumonia, and had to go to PT, I've worn no shoe except my Sketchers; they offer arch support and help me with balance issues. The crocs are pretty, but I don't think they would work for me, Duta.

    1. Sorry to hear about your pneumonia, Martha. Glad the sketchers are of help in balance issues, and that you've got arch support.

  6. I have trouble with my feet and have never been tempted by crocks. Perhaps I need to revisit my prejudice.

    1. Perhaps you should have second thoughts about it. Crocks are comfortable, light, and that goes well with feet trouble.

  10. These are very popular ... our daughter-in-law has a pair and our granddaughter, they both say how comfortable they are.

    All the best Jan

  11. I have a pink pair! Yes, you know it's summer here when you get out the crocks. But we wear them inside too. I like to have something like these that can make your way through the pavement and the grass and still keep your feet cool. I think they are great to cook in. I'm messy in the kitchen and I can wash them off easily.

    1. Pink ,is OK indoors. I'll wear them not only in summer. Our weather is warm except the 3-months of winter. There are also crocks for winter, without the holes. I've got a pair.

  14. My beloved adores his crocks and always wears them in the house. As long as he doesn't wear them to work, formal dinners and synagogue, I say :)

    1. See, your hubby's a doctor, and if he wears crocks, they can't be that bad. I wish to believe that wearing them indoors prevents falling from elderly people.

  15. That's good you can wear them Duta.
I had those black sandals and had to give them away because I kept getting blister on the feet - oh dear, what a pity however, I have worn sandals with less strapping and wear the croc thongs sometimes.

    1. Foot wear is not a light matter at all. Everybody has to find out what's best for his feet and toes. Wrong footwear can cause great unhappiness.

  17. Not for me. I need good support which they have none of. I have very high arches, very narrow feet, and with the arthritis in the knees and back I pay lots of attention to my footwear. And the falling is such a hugh problem for seniors wearing a good supportive shoe is important; but I do see lots of people wearing flip flops and crocs. Chiropracters and Pediatrist must cringe with how popular they are. The ones I've seen in stores are usually cheap, so I assumed that was part of their popularity. But, if they work for you; it's nice you found them.

    1. Hi ,Sandy. Nothing is cheap in our part of the world, including crocks.
I definitely understand you, and it seems you've done the very right thing, paying thorough attention to your footwear, and decing crocks are not for you.

  18. I'm glad you found shoes you like. We are all individuals with individual bodies. I've never owned a pair of Crocs, but my grandchildren love them.

    1. Exactly. We have individual bodies; what's good for one individual, is not always good fo the other.

  21. I have never been able to wear these -- no place for my orthotics -- but oh, how I wish I could. I love the way they look. I hear mixed reviews on comfort but those who love them say you can't beat it!

    1. The way they look certainly attracts the eye, but then, if you don't feel their good contribution to your feet - attraction vanishes.

  23. I had a pair for working in the garden. But I didn't like both, the shoes and the garden work !

    1. Actually , because of the holes, crocks are not good for garden work which usually involves soil and water.

  24. Yeah, I know about that lack of arch support. I did not buy mine, but my brother in law passed on his to me (as it was oversize for him) and I am really liking it. Very practical to use.

  25. I have heeled crocs with straps on top like sandals. I love it and wear everywhere. Can be worn with any outfit.

  26. Sounds awsome! Heels are not for me anymore. I might buy a pair with platforms; at least, they make me look taller:)

  27. I know many people who wear these shoes year round, Duta, but I am not among them. years ago, I tried a pair, but the lack of any support was a detriment to me. Like yourself, I also need a wide (and larger) shoe size, and shopping for ones that are comfortable and supportive is always a challenge.

    1. I see. Here, the price seems to be the big obstacle. I think there are some fake crocks on the market, and people are trying to cope with them, as prices of the original go up and up.

  28. I know so many people who swear by Crocs. I've never tried them and the cost is part of it. But now, the extra wide shoes (I also have the need for an extra wide toe) cost so much more that maybe I should try a pair. I would have to wear the originals with the back strap; I'd never make it up my stairs without the back strap.

    1. The cost here, is quite a problem. If you order them online, you have to pay for shipping too.
