To all my blog friends,
I have NOT disabled comments on my last post . I 've notified Blogger, but they don't seem to care or cooperate. I'm afraid to try and do things myself as the PC is rather old and might leave me in the middle.
Hoping for the Best,
duta
Hi Duta comments is turned off on your latest post (Burda) so just wanted to say I had stopped by and it brought back happy memories of my father's business trips to Germany in the 70s when he always returned with a magazine for me - usually the Burda sewing magazine! Your post here is thought provoking - I like having people around me yet I dont like them to get too close/personal, probably why I like blogging so much!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what happened, Betty. The Burda post doesn't accept comments. Good thing I have moderation through email, so I transferred your comment from email to this notification. Thanks anyway.
DeleteI'm glad your Dad gave you a taste of Burda and of trips to Germany.
Oh, I'm so glad that you posted about Burda, but then I couldn't comment. I think of my grandmother telling me..every girl needs a sewing machine. I think I have 3 but only one really works. I usually, upcycle what I have. That's wonderful how you made something so beautiful for you mother.
ReplyDeleteYour grandmother was right. Having a sewing machine at home is a Must.
DeleteBy learning to sew, I've proved to myself and to others that it's possible to acquire an ability even if you don't have some inborn talent for it. Will and patience can do it.
The three ladies in the top Burda photo, in coat frocks and matching hats, represent my era beautifully. They have an elegant, timeless quality that still appeals to me now.
ReplyDeleteElegance for all women regardless of their budgets, was Aenne Burda's wish. The fashion shown on the magazine's covers has indeed timeless quality.
DeleteIt was such a beautiful post with such beautiful memories. Could you not copy it and post it again today? You would have it on there twice but I am sure there are so many memories that you stirred up that you will miss reading. It's worth a try.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely brought up memories for me of my mom sewing. My earliest memories were of her sewing. We would go to church on Sunday and she and my sister and myself would all be wearing matching red dresses. Always red as that was her favorite color. She still sews. Right now as I write this she is working on her Christmas gift for all her daughters and granddaughters, she is making each of them quilts. I don't know why I have not been taking pictures of them to do a blog post! I'll start doing that today.
I was surprised, it never happened to me, and I didn't know what to do. I sent it again, but no change, So I stopped messing with it.
DeleteEvery time you write about your Mom I feel your deep admiration for her. No doubt, she's quite a character. May God give her long, happy years together with her charming family!
I was curious why you cut off comments. I assumed you had a busy week. But yes I enjoyed reading about Burda. I still sew.
ReplyDeleteI am indeed rather busy now, but if I publish a post I\m eager to see the comments, so I wouldn't disable them.
DeleteI'm glad to know that you've enjoyed reading about Burda, and that you're still in business, that is, you sew things. It's a valuable practice which gives satisfaction and saves money.
Terrible on blogger. Good for you learning to sew on your own, it never occurred to me, I thought someone had to show me. I never learned.
ReplyDeleteWell, in those days, you had to have someone to show you the first steps (I had a friend who did that). Nowadays,
DeleteI suppose they teach you sewing online, the way they teach you a lot of other things. Anyway, it's good to know how to sew.
Glad you cleared this up. I was wondering why we couldn't comment on your Burda post. I had not heard of them. My mom did a lot of sewing but used Simplicity or Butterick patterns. I think that is what they were called. It was a long time ago when she sewed our clothes. She was always busy at the sewing machine it seemed.
ReplyDeleteBetty
No,it's not cleared up. The Burda post accepts no comments. Only Blogger knows why. Hope it doesn't happen to other posts too.
DeleteIt doesn't matter if it's Burda, Simplicity, or Butterick, as lomg as the patterns help with the sewing.
It's always so frustrating when there are technical issues! I sometimes find on people that don't use blogger my comments can just vanish and I never know if they post or not - it can be tricky for sure!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a good week :)
Away From The Blue
Yes, it is. Especially that the post on Burda is an impotant post for me.I'm grateful to those magazines that have taught me basic sewing and fashion, and made me feel proud of my work.
DeleteI thought it unusual for you to have comments off.
ReplyDeleteI enjoying reading the post.
Take care, my good wishes.
All the best Jan
I'm glad you've enjoyed the Burda post. It's about a great woman (Aenne Burda) and her fashion empire set up for the benefit of all the women wordwide.
DeleteGlitches at the moment in blogger hopefully all soon fixed.
ReplyDeleteBurda, wonderful post you did and I must say I've used Burda patterns in the past when I used to sew, don't anymore even though I've 3 sewing machines...take care.
ן hope your sewing machines are in order, not like mine.
DeleteBurda was quite an experience for me, and probably for you too.
Thank you for liking my post I did on the subject.
For the longest time I couldn't get to the Reading List..now that is fixed! I wish I did more sewing. I will confess You Tube has helped me a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your Reading List got fixed.
DeleteYoutube is a great helper and not only in sewing matters. It requires, however, a lot of browsing as not every video is well done and helpful.
Comments are back. So is my reading list. I can never figure out blogger but I thought it odd you had (presumably) disabled comments in a post that wasn't particularly controversial and likely to provoke a vituperative argument! I'm glad you didn't. Blogger is getting its act back on track. I hope.
ReplyDeleteNo, comments on my Burda post are not back. Don't know why, and it's kind of frustrating.
DeleteMy posts, though sometimes thought -provoking, are usually not controversial, and not intended to cause arguments. I accept differences of opinion, and publish any comment, provided it's not an insult or spam.
That is frustrating. Happy weekend
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it is. I wanted it to be a post enjoyed by all, as Burda fashion and magazines are to this day a great contribution to us women.
DeleteWell, Blogger decided otherwi
Happy weekend to you too!!
Your post was a trip down memory lane. In US our patterns company was SIMPLICITY. I loved sewing for my children whent hey were small. I taught myself everything. Now I have inherited my husband's late mom's old singer, an antique that wirks and I use to hem and stitch.
ReplyDeleteFrom your comment and a former one, I learn that Burda was not alone. She was popular in Europe but, the USA had their own patterns' company - Simplicity.
DeleteWell, the more the better.
I gave away my Mom's old Singer and I regret it. It had antique value and it was a great memento( but, sadly, I didn't have the space for it).
Sorry your having problems with blogger. They seem to have a lot of problems lately.
ReplyDeleteI very much hope it's a one time issue and it won't repeat itself. The Burda post is important to me, and so are the comments regarding it, but Blogger has disabled them causing me frustration.
DeleteHi Duta ( I almost wrote Hi Burda!)
ReplyDeleteI had not known about Burda, i guess that shows how little I know about sewing!! Though I have made a few things over the years with hand sewing. So wonderful that you are gifted with being able to sew and use the sewing machine. Such a beautiful story you shared at the end of the post about the dress for your mother. Maybe you can make us a whole post about it and this special memory. How special that it was for the High Holy days and she debuted wearing it in the synagogue. Love and blessings and so timely as we approach the High Holy days, a happy and blessed month of Elul to you! Love, Shayndel
It's good to hear from you, Shayndel!
DeleteThe thing is I'm not gifted, but I've made the effort to teach myself sewing as I understood its great importance in a household.
Thanks a lot for your touching words on my memory regarding Mom's dress.
Love and blessings to you too!
i hope U fix your computer:)
ReplyDeleteI actually have to buy a new one, but I'm lazy about it.
DeleteMy hope is that Blogger won't interfere and make bad things happen, like the disabling of comments in the Burda post.
I had troubles recently with Blogger the comments didn't arrive in my email !! Now it's solved !
ReplyDeleteComments through mail is the best! It sometimes happens, that the comment is placed on the wrong post. I can transfer it to the right post by copying it from the email.
DeleteStrange things happen all the time...most test my patience...and win! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean, Blogger issues?
DeleteWell, instead of getting comments on my Burda post, I get them on my notification, and not referring at all to my post. That's frustrating.
