Food for Thought

There's a nice blog " Window to Beauty" with news from the  world of beauty products.

In  one of  its last posts, there's mention of Ariana Grande's new eau de perfume called  'God is a woman'. That's a challenging name, and gives food for thought.

I personally, see God as  a 'Super Power' , a power that has created the universe and is high above all and everything;  an omnipotent and omnipresent power that is neither a man nor a woman.

I  too refer to this power in the masculine form, as God, He, Him,   because that's how it has been referred to, for ages, and the name has solid, religious and social grounds. None of the names (God, Superpower, Universe) bothers me  as long as people  trust and respect the entity represented by God.

Another nice blog I follow is "Traveling Bug". It's about an american family that travels a lot, and brings us some great travel photos .   Lately, I find myself paying attention to the two adopted lovely asian girls in the family; they're growing up fast and it becomes interesting to observe their integration within the family and outside it.

Adoption is also a subject which gives food for thought, especially in those cases where there are already biological children, as in the  above family.

As a rule, I'm not for taking out a child from its natural, ethnical environment . In the long run, it might suffer.

As for the adopting family, when the kids, both the biological  and the adopted ones, grow up, and become aware of differences ( the obvious physical ones: such as skin color, eye shape, nose shape etc..), things in the family might get complicated. I've seen that happen. Education and good will, don't always solve problems.

So far, that's a very happy family  and the posts provide the reader with a lot of pleasure and fun.

Covid-19 is striking hard. I can't help it thinking that, perhaps, we're being punished for mistreating ourselves, others, and the Planet. So far, there seems to be no solution, except of temporary euphoria episodes caused by vaccination.

  1. You always have a way of perhaps turning on the light to many matters that touch us that we somehow overlook. Working in the library I see so many different families. It's amazing what some people will do to get a good education to their children. Some stay with family just for that reason. While others adopt those from other countries. And then there are those families from other countries who probably make the most of the library more than those who have kids and only come to check out a few movies. One family comes to mind, they have two adopted girls from different countries and what keeps them so interestingly together is music and of course I am sure their faith is a big part of it too.

I am like you I have always felt God as a superpower.

And of course, COVID rages on as well as the wild fires too. Definitely, a time to reflect and hope we get through tomorrow. Thanks so much for the post.

    1. Thank YOU for reading and leaving a comment.
Things in life are never simple. People, however, manage to make even the complicated things, work and even flourish.
As for the perfume's name,'God is a woman', I suppose it sells well, and that's what matters to the creator of the product.

    2. Just when we thought we had COVID to worry about, next thing you know a country is falling apart. Always something to keep the tension up. Even in some of our neighborhood grocer's are facing more crime in their stores, too. Hope you are having a good week.

    3. You mean Afghanistan? Terrible tragedy!
I believe it's going to be famine, and more violence. I hope I'm wrong about that.

  2. Adoption is often a blessed alternative, when biological parents die or are incapable of looking after their children for a very long time. But even when the adopted children are fully and lovingly accepted into their adoptive families, a question always remains. Find My Family and other programmes may take 50 years to answer the questions that still remain unanswered.

My father was adopted by a loving aunt, by the way.

    1. That's true. There are cases of adoption as a blessing alternative. As for your father's case - adoption by an aunt - within the family, adoptions are usually very successful .Not always...
There's a case now in Israel where an only child survived the recent disaster of the cable train in Italy. and two families, one in Italy, the other in Israel are battling over him. Nothing good can come out of that.

  3. I see God the way you see him. He is neither male or female, he is above humanity. And I use the male pronouns. Popular culture flirt with upsetting the status quo. The wisdom of the creator is not affected by our foibles.

Covid is a wisdom adjuster. In the developed world, there is such a large group of people who refuse the vaccine. I live where the Delta variant is roaring due to so many who have chosen not to get the vaccine.

    1. Right; "..he is above humanity" - I like that.
"Covid is a wisdom adjuster" - I like that too (I hope I've understood you correctly; You mean, out of the Covid crisis, we also gain wisdom).
I was under the impression that in the
developed world, they just don't have enough vaccines, not that they refuse it.

    2. In the States, our former President has a cult-like following and not getting the vaccine is one of their credos. They will give you some wild story where they did their research. Research which is repeating some drivel by someone inspired by sheer meanness. We are having a huge amount of people in the hospital due to Covid. All because of people who will not get the vaccine.

Wisdom adjuster is how you understood it. I think people will learn more of what is truly important.

    3. ן can't say I'm familiar with what happened in the USA. What happened here is this: 2-3 months ago, restrictions were lifted, people were given the impression that wearing masks is an option etc.. and now we are in a catastrophic situation. The government is spending millions to buy vaccines for dose nr 3, and for the younger ones and children, just to prevent hospitalization and deaths, the spreading of the virus is not prevented by vaccine, as far as I know. May God help us!

    4. The booster will make a difference. When they post the hospitalization data here, they list whether the count of people who are vaccinated and unvaccinated. The vaccinated are not being intubated and having the worst outcomes. But they are getting the virus. The more prosperous countries need to help provide the vaccine to less prosperous. The tide is turning against people who are refusing the vaccine. The Delta variant is truly attacking them. It is a sad situation.

    5. It better make that difference! The country spends money it doesn't have, on these vaccines.
You seem to know more things than I do, perhaps, because you have access to hospitalization data there; here, we are in the dark, there's no transparency.

  5. I tend to look at God as how He is described in the Bible. Not sure if I would be interested in that perfume.

Both of my kids are adopted but they are the same race as hubby and me. Son found out his birth parents' names this past year as he was able to get a copy of his pre adoption birth certificate. Only the adoptee could apply for it. What he found out through googling their names was not a pretty picture. To respect his privacy I have chosen not to tell the story. I support children remaining with their biological families as much as possible. But in both cases of our son and daughter even with intervention I am not sure that would have been in their best interest. I was far from the perfect parent but we gave stability. I asked my son if he wished he had been raised by them and he said no. He knew it would have been such a different upbringing. He does plan to make contact one day and do an ancestry DNA kit to find siblings to find out genetics as he had some health issues earlier this year which could be heredity related.

    1. How very, very interesting! I'm sure you and your hubby are the best parents one could wish for.

Son and daughter are at the age that would enable them to explore their biological background if they so wish.
You've done your part raising them the best you could.

Thanks for your honesty and for sharing this personal and important part of your life, Betty.

  6. The name of that perfume seems rather presumptuous and I suspect geared to selling the product more than a belief. Personally, I would never buy a beauty product promoted by a celebrity or anyone else as I do not use them now.

Adoptions can go both ways, good and bad. My 2 nieces were adopted as infants from Guatemala and Columbia and are now grown with families of their own.

It is indeed sad that Covid is all anyone, newscasters and politicians seem to focus on most days.

    1. The name is meant, of course, as a gimmick, to increase selling of the perfume.
I'm like you in that I won't buy any product just because it's being promoted by a celebrity, in this case by a famous singer.

Well, things look bad here,on the Covid front. May God help us!

  7. Many of us cannot wear perfume these days, as people have allergies.
Being adopted, I see the efficacy of it all. My mother couldn't manage to support me.
I think humans interpretation of God is quite interesting and varied. Religion is a whole other case.

    1. So far, I don't seem to be allergic to perfumes, but as I advance in age, I feel I've become sensitive to various smells: that of detergents, of barbecue, of foods being cooked, etc..
Your adoption appears to have been a success. You're a successful lady and have raised a successful family.

    1. Right. Luckily, kids, even if they're aware of differences they'll pay very little attention to that as what interests them is a good playmate and school friend.
It's later in life that trouble might begin.

  10. God is above us all the Divine power of all things - often refer to 'Him' as 'Him up there' :) no offence to be taken Duta. Not into perfume but have some given to me so use it once in a blue moon.
Love all the blogs I follow - and adoption, takes a special person to adopt a total stranger, family is much different though.
We have people against the vaccine here in Australia, and then there are those who don't believe in Covid-19 - how unreal is that with people falling ill of it around them, they just don't believe - rather strange to me, thank goodness there are not heaps of them.
    Take care.

    1. I believe people that oppose vaccines are a tiny, insignificant minority. There's another minority, of people who refuse to have it for medical reasons; that's something else (vaccines do carry some risks, which will be felt only later on, in the years to come.).

I'm ok with adoption. I have a brother who was adopted before I was born. I got to meet him years ago but things didn't work out. I also have a nephew who my brother and sister in law adopted.

Adoption used to be the only alternative for families with no kids, in the old days. Nowadays, fertility treatments and surrogacy arrangements bring a lot of happiness to such families, yet adoption still exists.

  20. Yes it is named after the song 'God is a woman'. Ariana can be seen in her version of Michelangelo's well-known painting The Creation of Adam. While the original masterpiece shows God creating the first man Adam, in Ariana's version the world's first man is a woman. And God? He is played (in the clip) by Ariana!

I am a Christian and I don't like the song and the clip. But she really a beautiful voice.
