The 'Hashish' Mystery

On the 22 of November, dozens of packages containing many kilograms of drugs washed up on the beaches of the Mediterranean, from northern Israel (Naharia, Haifa, Tirat Hakarmel, Zichron Ya'akov) to its center (Tel-Aviv, Rishon- Lezion).

At first, there was panic ; fear of packages containing explosives. So, the police were called to inspect them and look for additional packages. Next, the dumped stuff was transferred to a police lab.

Could be it was a failed smuggling operation of packages tossed from a passing ship for locals to collect. The other possibility is that the israeli owner was trying, for some reason, to get rid of the illegal drugs and threw them into the sea.

So far, we haven't heard anything from the police, and that's frustrating.

I recall something similar in the past, but it was on a much smaller scale, and  long before the talks on cannabis'  legalization.

Anyway, this kind of happening causes security panic, and it might damage the marine fauna (the packages of marijuana were non water proof).

  3. Drugs are such a big problem in this world.
Interesting these parcels were washed up on the beach and who knows the reason, you might never hear and always wonder.
Didn't hear about it down here.

    1. Drugs are a big issue with big money and we might know nothing or very little about those involved in this. Just wondering about it.

  4. must have been worrying until the package contents were verified.

    1. It has. It always is when packages, bags, boxes with no owners, are found in public places.

  5. It doesn't make sense, does it? People who want to use or sell the drugs will be distraught over the huge amount of money lost. And people who want to it damage the marine fauna can find much easier ways to achieve their goal.

I would be inclined to believe your first hypothesis: to put fear in peoples' hearts about packages containing explosives. But the police would warn every citizen, if that was true. My son lives on the beach near Tel Aviv...he hasn't said a word sofar :(
    Be safe!!

    1. Right; it doesn't make sense, but we, the law abiding citizens understand very little in drugs, the huge money involved, the damage done to humans and non-humans.

    1. Yes, Marie. We live in a world of terror, and packages like these cause concern and fear. We have to be constantly on the alert.

    1. We could definitely do without such mysteries that take up much police time and scare the citizens.

  8. So scary! What a scene. Such strange tactics happening, but then again, you have to wonder if the bad guys even know what's going on. All these random things are just becoming more common..or so it seems.

    1. What makes it particularly scary is the size of it: tens of kilograms of hashish which amount to huge money and are scattered along a lot of beaches.

  9. WOW, that's quite a mystery for sure. Thank goodness it wasn't explosives, but who knows how dangerous it is for fish etc. I would be frustrated too at not knowing what's going on. Wonder why the police are being so secreative about it. Keep us posted if you learn anything more about it.

    1. Police has its reasons for keeping secrecy, at least at this stage. It's no easy investigation. Drugs is dangerous stuff, both for humans and for fish.

  10. That is so strange! Someone lost a lot of money on this deal, but it may have saved someone else.

  13. I hope people will think more of sending `good` things across the seas with good intentions, and for the good of people and all the inhabitants of the earth, for shalom and not for evil! I know, it may sound naive in these days, but still I do hope!!

Love and blessings to you Duta, ❤️

  16. Wow -- I hadn't thought about the impact on marine life in non-waterproof packages. That's interesting and potentially sad, the plastic if nothing else. Thanks again so much for your greatly appreciated visits! I always smile when your name comes up in the comments.

    1. Both the plastic of the packages and the drug contents might harm marine life.
Thanks Jeanie for your very kind words.

    1. Thanks a lot Manuel for your interesting comment.
I'm relieved by your opinion that the damage to fish by cannabis (natural plant) is null, whereas that of other drugs (cocaine) is negligible.
