On the 22 of November, dozens of packages containing many kilograms of drugs washed up on the beaches of the Mediterranean, from northern Israel (Naharia, Haifa, Tirat Hakarmel, Zichron Ya'akov) to its center (Tel-Aviv, Rishon- Lezion).
At first, there was panic ; fear of packages containing explosives. So, the police were called to inspect them and look for additional packages. Next, the dumped stuff was transferred to a police lab.
Could be it was a failed smuggling operation of packages tossed from a passing ship for locals to collect. The other possibility is that the israeli owner was trying, for some reason, to get rid of the illegal drugs and threw them into the sea.
So far, we haven't heard anything from the police, and that's frustrating.
I recall something similar in the past, but it was on a much smaller scale, and long before the talks on cannabis' legalization.
Anyway, this kind of happening causes security panic, and it might damage the marine fauna (the packages of marijuana were non water proof).

WOW so glad it was not explosives. Scary. Janice
ReplyDeleteScary , indeed. We live in a country with dauly, constant security problems.
DeleteVery concerning.
ReplyDeleteIt's an event that leaves no one indifferent.
DeleteDrugs are such a big problem in this world.
ReplyDeleteInteresting these parcels were washed up on the beach and who knows the reason, you might never hear and always wonder.
Didn't hear about it down here.
Drugs are a big issue with big money and we might know nothing or very little about those involved in this. Just wondering about it.
Deletemust have been worrying until the package contents were verified.
ReplyDeleteIt has. It always is when packages, bags, boxes with no owners, are found in public places.
DeleteIt doesn't make sense, does it? People who want to use or sell the drugs will be distraught over the huge amount of money lost. And people who want to it damage the marine fauna can find much easier ways to achieve their goal.
ReplyDeleteI would be inclined to believe your first hypothesis: to put fear in peoples' hearts about packages containing explosives. But the police would warn every citizen, if that was true. My son lives on the beach near Tel Aviv...he hasn't said a word sofar :(
Be safe!!
Right; it doesn't make sense, but we, the law abiding citizens understand very little in drugs, the huge money involved, the damage done to humans and non-humans.
DeleteI can understand the panic these days when packages appear on the beach.
ReplyDeleteYes, Marie. We live in a world of terror, and packages like these cause concern and fear. We have to be constantly on the alert.
DeleteWhat a mystery!
ReplyDeleteWe could definitely do without such mysteries that take up much police time and scare the citizens.
DeleteSo scary! What a scene. Such strange tactics happening, but then again, you have to wonder if the bad guys even know what's going on. All these random things are just becoming more common..or so it seems.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes it particularly scary is the size of it: tens of kilograms of hashish which amount to huge money and are scattered along a lot of beaches.
DeleteWOW, that's quite a mystery for sure. Thank goodness it wasn't explosives, but who knows how dangerous it is for fish etc. I would be frustrated too at not knowing what's going on. Wonder why the police are being so secreative about it. Keep us posted if you learn anything more about it.
ReplyDeletePolice has its reasons for keeping secrecy, at least at this stage. It's no easy investigation. Drugs is dangerous stuff, both for humans and for fish.
DeleteThat is so strange! Someone lost a lot of money on this deal, but it may have saved someone else.
ReplyDeleteYes, drugs are dangerous for all.
Strange, mysterious, dangerous - all of that is true, Mari.
DeleteWhat a horrible mess and tragic consequences! We live close to San Diego border, about 100 miles.
ReplyDeleteHorrible mess, indeed. As for tragic consequences, hopefully there weren't any. We know very few details.
DeleteI always worry about the harm that's being done to marine life. I hope those drugs did no harm.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? The packages were non water proof, so may be some of them disintegrated in water and poisened fish.
DeleteI hope people will think more of sending `good` things across the seas with good intentions, and for the good of people and all the inhabitants of the earth, for shalom and not for evil! I know, it may sound naive in these days, but still I do hope!!
ReplyDeleteLove and blessings to you Duta, ❤️
My hope is the same as yours, Shayndel. Let's hope for no more evil but for good intentions and will.
DeleteSo sorry for the marine life and waters involved and for the panic...I hope you are keeping well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your concern, and good hope.
DeleteVery mysterious. Probably a big deal went wrong and money went down the drain. Hope the police will get a lead to reach a conclusion.
ReplyDeleteOnly the Police can have the clues to this affair. Anyway, it makes people think and wonder about it.
DeleteWow -- I hadn't thought about the impact on marine life in non-waterproof packages. That's interesting and potentially sad, the plastic if nothing else. Thanks again so much for your greatly appreciated visits! I always smile when your name comes up in the comments.
ReplyDeleteBoth the plastic of the packages and the drug contents might harm marine life.
DeleteThanks Jeanie for your very kind words.
I worry about the marine life - did they become high or would they perish. Thanks for this post that informs us and many thanks for stopping by my blog to comment. I think it's only you that stops to comment whenever I post. It is always a pleasure to see your name.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I don't know things for sure. My knowledge of drugs and marine life is minimal.
DeleteMy pleasure to visit your blog!
Boa noite Duta. Aqui no Brasil já tivemos um verão com latas de drogas aparecendo em praias do Rio de Janeiro.
ReplyDeleteSo, it's not only an israeli thing. Cans sounds better than non water proof plastic packages.
DeleteBoa tarde minha querida amiga Duta. Desejo uma excelente terça-feira com muita paz e saúde.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Luiz.
Thanks a lot Manuel for your interesting comment.
DeleteI'm relieved by your opinion that the damage to fish by cannabis (natural plant) is null, whereas that of other drugs (cocaine) is negligible.
wow what a story!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Kathy - what a story! I understand from previous commenters (Brasil, Spain) that it happens in other places too.
DeleteI'd not seen this in the news, but it is concerning.
ReplyDeleteI hope the mystery can be solved.
All the best Jan
I suppose not all news from Israel appear in the UK media.
DeleteWe have the same thing in the U.S. It is frightening, but so is learning that when my ex huband and I lived in Alaska (he was in the Army) they buried nerve gas in barrels in the nearby river. Hope you have a great week.
ReplyDelete'nerve gas' burried in the river - oh, my God!
DeleteHave a great week too!
Wow, that would be crazy to find while walking along the beach.
ReplyDeleteYes, Mary. Lots of people love walking along the beach; so imagine the reaction of those who saw the packages.
