The Pick Sisters

There's a very successful 70 year old  israeli singer and composer of polish descent, that happens to live in my hometown.
Last year, he got a massive stroke while on the plane that was to bring  him back home from a tour abroad. The pilot changed the route so that he could get him to the closest hospital. The musician was saved. After a long and difficult recovery period, he's now back in business. Happy End.

However, he and family are still heavily on the radar of the Media, due to his daughter's Daniella marriage to the famous american filmmaker and  director Quentin Tarantino.

I used to see this daughter of his hanging around with her sister. The two girls were rather plain looking, but seemed to have inherited their father's musical aptitudes. They set up a musical duo, The 'Pick Girls', and for a while had quite a big success (I personally liked them enormously; there was something very refreshing about them).

The 'engine' behind the sisters was their mother(divorced from their father, the musician). The mother works  in the lyrics business - writes the lyrics of songs and musicals, which eventually become great hits. She's a talented, charismatic woman; her late mother was a well-known , sharp journalist for one of the major newspapers in the country.

The duo, however, was short -lived, as one of them, Sharona, got married and started a family. The other one, Daniella  was left behind with no real purpose in life.

Then, one day Daniella was invited to a party and there, she was introduced to the guest of honor , Quentin Tarantino. Their affair lasted several years with ups and downs and at the end of last year they finalized it by getting married. Now, they're expecting a baby. Happy End again in the Pick family. (I do like stories with a happy end).

I once overheard someone commenting on the fact that she got  to Hollywood and the Red carpet without her being a known actress/singer/model...just the spouse of....
So what??
Anyway, she wouldn't be the first to get there on such a 'ticket'.

  1. Why do people feel the need to carp about someone's success or happiness? Leave her alone for God's sake. Sustaining a marriage in Hollywood is hard enough under any circumstances without sniping from others. I wish for her a long and happy marriage. Everyone should do the same.

    1. Whenever I think of her I wish her all the best. She deserves to be told: Well done! Kudos to you, Daniella!

Most people, especially those who are fans of her father, are proud of her and fans of her too.

  3. Hi Duta, I must say I like stories with a happy end too!! I suppose we all do :))!! May it be a happy beginning for her too in her marriage and career!! I hope her new husband will embrace Israel and Israeli culture and that they will do something new for the Glory of God!! Yes, that is what I hope!! Thanks for sharing the clip of the duo too,and hearing "Israel pop"was fun!! I was surprised it actually reminds me of some J-pop girls groups. All the blessings to them both and their families!!

    1. Yes, the husband seems to embrace Israel and its culture. They've even bought a luxury appartment in Tel-Aviv.
Tarantino is considered a cinema icon, and is invited to lecture on filmography in various relevant places.
As for the clip - you're welcome to enjoy it!

  4. Nice to read something refreshing like this! Great that the girls' father made a good recovery and that both daughters seem to be on their way to happy lives with husbands and now a baby for Daniella!

    1. Right. I thought it would be kind of suitable to end the year with a positive story: miraculous recovery of the father, daughters happily married ( the other sister has kids and is married to a guy whose family owns a chain of first class hotels). The sisters have also a brother ( doctor at the hospital).

  5. Ewww, I would never want Tarantino for a son in law. I cannot stand directors who glamourise mobsters, criminals and killers and that is his main preoccupation in his films filled with violence. He is vile.

    1. Well, you do write in your blog about films with horror and violence. That doesn't make you one of the bad guys, does it?

Anyway, you don't have to be a Tarantino; by mere writing and mentioning the vile phenomena in those movies, you also help promoting them, and even supporting them.

    2. No, I don't. There is only violence in some of the epic and period set projects that I mention but in those projects they are the part of past setting (imagined or real) and as such serve either as historical reminder of bad things that happened and shouldn't happen again or as a lesson for viewers and humanity, since we are doomed if we do not learn from our, often violent and barbaric, past.

I have a very strict policy about films and shows that use violence strictly as audience bait or fun. I do not cover them (and I'm probably the only one who does that).

I can understand that you never really watched Tarantino's movies. He does not use violence as a lesson of what not to do, he uses it because he has a mind of a pubescent boy who finds pleasure in gore, blood and aggression. He sees and portrays violence as something cool. He glamourises it. There is a humongous difference between that, Duta, and the projects I cover. In some of his films he even crosses taboos and puts, for example, two women to fight to death in front of children. He is a disgusting and idiotically irresponsible man on a position from which he spread such vile influence to masses. Similar to, lets say, David Fincher, whose films inspire real life butchers, psychos and killers to do in reality what his characters do on film. Remember how his glamourisation of evil villain Joker in Batman influenced that psycho in Denver to enter the cinema and shoot dozen of people in it imagining he is the Joker?

And I almost never cover horror, if you mean Dracula, you will remember that my post on it was mostly negative, criticising BBC, who should be a bastion of family values as a national broadcaster funded by peoples' money, for airing gore for holidays or in prime time. Pay better attention, and you will notice that I'm probably the only blogger in the world who criticises such vile phenomena, not promote it. I see myself as one of the very few fighters for wholesome programmes in today's show business which seems to have lost all moral values and standards.

    3. To me, and the average film viewers, violence is violence is violence.
Sorry, but your attempt to classify and analyse this stuff, makes it look and sound even worse.

    1. Yes, we should mention more the bright sides in our life, give them more space and attention. We concentrate too much on the gloomy elements that make up our lives.

    1. You couldn't have known, as they were not famous internationally. I believe their musical duo would have made it big internationally if it weren't for one of the sisters who quit.

  10. Well, kudos to all of them. I've never heard of the girls and their family but wish them well. Nothing wrong with Tarantino, that's his job and he's successful at it!

    1. Israel seems to be "on the map". First Tarantino and Daniella. Now Al Pacino the famous, versatile american actor, is seriously dating an israeli actress, Meital Dohan (half his age). Judging by interviews she gave in the past, she's quite an intelligent young person. Well, I wish them all the best.

  11. I'm glad the story had a happy ending. I had not heard of them here in the states either. I really appreciate the wisdom and commitment of the pilot who changed his route to save a life. That's wonderful.

I hope you had a lovely Hanukkah. I am late reading people's blogs, having been away for a bit! Happy New Year!

  12. Why do some people have to be so nasty?? Jealousy/envy is the cause. Being nasty is so, so unnecessary...a very unattractive trait to have!

I'm a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino, director...I love his movies. I wish he and his wife all the very best.

I also wish you and your loved ones all the very best for 2020, and beyond, DUTA. Take good care. :)

  14. I was not familiar with the Pick Sisters, Duta, and until reading this post and watchung the video had not heard of them. However, I have heard of Quentin Tarentino, the director, but admittedly have not seen any of his films, including Pulp Fiction.

    1. Well, the musical career of the two sisters was short, and only on the local scene, so you couldn't have heard of them.
Quentin Tarantino, on the other hand, is famous,so even if you haven't seen his films, you've sure heard of him.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
