What an adorable little creature in the hands of the young girl! It's a siberian chihuahua. According to the girl's story, it was brought to her by her uncle directly from Siberia and is considered the best breed .
[ Oh Siberia, that's a place! By the way, I read the other day an interview with Miss Siberia in the Softpedia. The interviewer concludes his article with a compliment to the Beauty Queen: "She's refreshing like ice and hot as hell", he writes. Well, one could say about Siberia "....refreshing like ice and cold as hell". Not that I was there personally; it's general knowledge. I wish I could visit the place someday in the future, especially for Lake Baikal, the oldest , the deepest, the clearest of the lakes in the world - a miracle of Nature , subject of poets, artists, musicians and scientists].
At my request, the girl handed over the tiny, smooth Chih to me to keep it in my arms for a while; it was quiet, even indifferent, and that surprised me a little as I knew the chihuahuas were very temperamental and also jealous when their owner talked to a stranger. It appears that it has been undergoing daily gentle , but firm training to prevent bad behaviour such as : barking at people, jumping on people & furniture, racing from room to room, urinating on the rug , etc.. The chihuahuas tend to be dominant , so the earlier training begins, the better.
Anyway, it was sheer pleasure to hold it in my arms and caress its velvety skin.
I suppose with proper training the Chih makes a wonderful pet: sweet, friendly and very loyal. I would sure like to own a Chih that looks like the one in the picture , but I'll probably have to find myself first an uncle with siberian connections.
I think they can be lovely pets. My pastor's wife has one who is very territorial, but is really quite nice too. She has a Xmas tea party for all us ladies every year; Teetee will bark and scurry around at first, but eventually will go into his little kennel and pull his covers over his head!! It's so cute.
ReplyDeleteNever been to Siberia; don't want to!! They must have a terrible tourist trade!!
Hi Duta,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting on my visit to the Hilmar Cheese Co and my relationship with my mother and daughter, that was so sweet of you. We had a great time.
My mother has a chihuahua, not a Siberian, her's is not a pure bred, it's a mix of chihuahua and mini doberman and she is very protective. It's so funny to watch such a little thing pretend to be so ferocious! My mom named her Chula which means Pretty in Spanish.
They do make very nice pets but they are a little high strung. Take care!
Duta,
ReplyDeleteI was fortunate to own a Chihuahua (not a Siberian), but he was really sweet. I picked him out of his litter the day he was born and had him with me from the day he was weened to the day he died fifteen years later. He was a dedicated, well-behaved little guy and I miss him to this day. I'm not sure what the difference in the breeds are, but I would highly recommend persons who need to have a smaller pet to consider a Chihuahua.
As always, your posts are so interesting. When you schedule your trip to Siberia let us know so we can 'go along'. Have a wonderful day!
They are so cute, tiny and harmless looking. I had a great uncle (not from Siberia) who always owned chihuahuas. Each and everyone would bite anyone who came close to my uncle...even my aunt!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad this one was a gentle creature who let you cuddle and enjoy his presence.
Have a wonderful Monday beautiful Duta!!!
My grandmother had a chihuahua named Don Juan. He would sit with her for hours in her chair. He was a very good companion for her.
ReplyDeleteas you know i have two long haired chihuahuas and just adore them...and they adore me. for some reason they can comfort me when no one else can.
ReplyDeletethe chihuahua in your picture is precious. i love her coat.
That's a very sweet photograph Duta. I have had dogs of my own over the years, mainly Boxers. They, like many fierce looking dogs, are mere babies at heart - even when they grow older!
ReplyDeleteA Chihuahua is is pretty little thing and definitely suited to the ladies.
What a cute puppy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious pup! I love the little ones.
ReplyDeleteThey are cute but I don't think one would do well with my wild humans!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me Duta, and leaving your comnments on heels. Yes, I agree with you; I love heels and they look beautiful and elegant on a woman's foot. But my soon-to-be 55 yr old feet complain too much now-a-days to wear them very often. Still, I'll continue to wear them a little until they take me to the old folks home (and maybe even then!).
ReplyDeleteI so much enjoy your blog and travelling with you!
Seem so very cute ! Once we had it two ( a couple of the Tom and Judy...lol )at the country house...And one day the Judy was disappeared from her home....Oh, sad their love stories...Imaginations for needed....lol...Anyway felt it from the pic some snug...!!
ReplyDeleteHi Duta,
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how long a place like "Lake Baikal will continue to stay in its pristine state with the pulp and paper mill on the lake. Although, since 1987 it is somewhat protected, but it appears to need continued protection.
I hope you get to travel there one day soon.
Oh my goodness, talk about an oxymoron in action! The Giant Shrimp of the dog world, a Siberian Chihuahua! How in the world a dog with such a tiny body mass endeavors to not freeze solid in the famed land of ice and snow, I'll never know.
ReplyDeleteI like the concept of a Chihuahua (Mexican, Siberian, wherever) because it is as if they never quite catch on to how the deck is stacked against them. They're itty bitty, so tiny as to be easily crushed, surrounded by beings who tower above them, yet if they know any of that to be a detraction? They never let on.
As tiny as they are they strive to let you know, "No, really. I'm in charge, you overgrown oaf. I'll prove it!"
When I think of it that way, a Siberian Chihuahua makes perfect sense. Never has a dog more thoroughly ignored when the decks were stacked so firmly against them!
Fun post, DUTA. You put a great big smile on my face. Of course, that's what your blog tends to do!
Sandy aka Doris the Great ,
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you. I believe your pastor's wife sees in it a nice companion despite its occasional aggressive behavior.
Alicia,
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I think it all depends on breed and on proper training. Now I know how to say beautiful in spanish: 'chula'. Sounds nice.
C Hummel Kornell a/k/a C Hummel Wilson,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you've had a good experience with a chihuahua. I'm told there are differences between the breeds but I don't know exactly what they are..
Nezzy,
ReplyDeleteI did hear something about their tendency to bite as they are jelous about their owner; that's why training is so important when the pup is a few monthes old.
Have a wonderful day you too!
Dimple,
ReplyDeleteThere must be some good reason why she named him Don Juan (LOL). Anyway, I'm glad the pup was a good companion to your Grandma.
AngelMC,
ReplyDeleteThat's good to know there's mutual adoration between you and the two chihuahuas.
I'm asking myself how you manage to comb their long hair. The Chih in the picture has no hair.
PhillipH,
ReplyDeleteYes, Both the girl and the Chih are sweet so they make a sweet picture.
They say, this little pup may be fierce to those surrounding it, if not trained properly.
However, I do agree with you in that it seems suitable to ladies.
The Bug,
ReplyDeleteYou must admit the girl owner is cute too. Especially her belly button.
Janie B,
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you do. How could one not love such an adorable pet. And the girl who owns it is lovely too.
Kyslp,
ReplyDeleteIndeed, from what I've heard these pups are not so suitable for children. But with proper training starting at the age of three months, they become good companion to anyone, inclusive children.
Sandy aka Doris the Great,
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and thank you for enjoying my blog. I completely agree with you on the subject of heels.
Nomore,
ReplyDeleteIndeed, it looks cute and snug. It's nice it reminds you of your own two Chihuahuas.
Angelina,
ReplyDeleteYou seem to know more about Lake Baikal than I do. I understand it's protected and there are scientific researches going on there.
Lady of Shimp,
ReplyDeleteI've asked myself the same question, but haven't found any answer yet.
'Giant Shrimp' - I like that. And yes, they are dominant creatures, try to "train" the owners.
I have to say that I like a little more dog with my dog. I have a 13-year-old small beagle, who rules the house. I loved reading your words.
ReplyDeleteSue
Someone's Mom,
ReplyDeleteThank you Sue.
A beagle needs indeed a litle more dog. I do believe you that he's running your house.
You know Eliot will not be allowed to play with your Chi, should you ever get one; due to his corrupting influence.
ReplyDelete>I'm going to look up that LAKE! I have fish lust. I bet I could pull some whoppers out of there! I fish in mirky water here in Texas. Sometimes, I can see the crappie come and take my bait if they're not too deep. It's such a rush. Do you fish?
Entrepeneur Chic,
ReplyDeleteHi Chic,
To answer your Question; No, I don't fish, and I don't even live near a lake or river.
That LAKE, well, it's unique and I don't think anyone is allowed to fish there; it's protected, considerded world heritage.
I'm always nervous if, while on a walk, a chihuahua comes running and barking at me. I know the worst they would do would be to bite my ankle, but they're so ferocious sounding!
ReplyDeleteRussia is a country that's always interested me. Thanks for the info on the lake - very interesting.
Bica,
ReplyDeleteWell, they can be nasty. That's why breed and training are important. The chi I held in my arms was adorable.
The siberian Lake Baikal is considered one of the Wonders of nature.
Since the Taco Bell commercial I have a tendency to think of this dog breed as the Taco Bell dog that needs a bigger box. I love dogs but prefer a different breed. I too would like to see that lake but rather in photos than live so dear one go forth and make photos to share with us. I use to think that chow chows were the easiest to train but now since my female lab, I think she is the queen of the training world. Have a wonderful weekend. Peace
ReplyDeleteLady Di Tn,
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for visiting.
Well, everyone and his preferrences in dogs, in travel, etc.. Whatever you decide upon, have Good Luck with it.
Peace and happiness to you!
Boo. No fishing in that LAKE. lol

ReplyDeleteEntrepreneur Chick,
ReplyDeleteSorry! But don't take my word for it. Maybe there's some possibility for tourists to engage in fishing, but one should inquire about that before arrival.
The Chihuahua is from Mexico... the name is a region/state in Mexico. They are watch dogs... that is where the "bad" behavior comes from.
ReplyDeleteI don't know and have never heard of a Siberian Chihuahua. . . that said, the dog was very cute.
cheers, parsnip
Siberian Chihuahua? Never 'eard of it.
ReplyDeleteI did once have 2 Siberian Dwarf Hamsters, and they had the softest fur... And fur on the soles of their feet... And in summer, when they looked ready to expire from heat, I put them in the ice compartment of the fridge. And they looked really happy!
I also used to have Mongolian Pygmy Hammies. Those were the Roborovskis that were really fast. Although the only film I took of them had them in BED!!
angryparsnip,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
You seem to know a lot about dogs & about the chihuahua.
Yes, I know its origin is in Mexico, but according to the girl in the picture, the siberian chihuahua is a special breed and it costs a small fortune.
Gledwood,
ReplyDeleteI heard about it for the first time when I met the girl in the picture holding a cute little chihuahua. It was she who told me about where it came from and that it was expensive.
So you put the hamsters in the ice compartment...OMG. It sounds hillarious but I bet it wasn't.
