I Wish I Could...

Sometimes,  teachers would encourage a pupil by telling him he's got potential, and can achieve anything he puts his mind to, provided he works hard on it. Well, I'm afraid that's not always true. We have our inborn limitations that can seldom be much improved by self-will and/or teaching.

I've recently been reflecting on things I wished I could do, but I haven't got the right aptitude for it,  such as sewing, rhyming poetry, and drawing.

I managed to teach myself  basic design sewing, using the genial method of the german magazine Burda. That was before the appearance of the internet. I remember how proud I was when I finished sewing an elegant dress for my Mom!

Well, the internet makes it  possible for me to approach the other two, with its rhyming dictionaries,  and  AI image generator.

The online 'rhyming dictionaries' (a good tool for lyricists and songwriters)  help us find words that rhyme with other words or endings, and thus greatly enhance  our writing.  I believe that a rhyming poem looks and sounds more festive and /or solemn (depending on the occasion), than a standard one .

As for drawing, the Bing  AI image generator gets  you a more or less successful image following the prompt given by you in text format.  Below, is the birthday card  for Irma,  21(age)in the left bottom corner, and a rose in the middle - all of which was demanded by me in my prompt.

birthday card - created by AI image generator

I  suppose there are other such nice little discoveries to be made. They require ,of course, some practice in order for the outcome to be successful.

  1. I've heard about AI but never used it. I have no talent for drawing, and this is intriguing!

    1. In my previous post I used two pictures created by AI generator; not bad at all.

    1. Easy for you to say that; you seem to be naturally gifted for art work.

  3. We know our strengths and weaknesses, Duta, but we should never stop learning new things.

    1. Never, indeed. As someone has said, the purpose of learning is growth and our minds can continue growing as we continue to live.

  4. That card was nice The one time I used AI it was to help write my post for last May 4 ("May the 4th be with you" for Star Wars fans) because I wondered what content it would give me. I'm a big believer in continuing to learn as long as we can. The mind needs to be exercised.

    1. I've just recently come upon AI image generator. With a bit ofpractice it can become useful for those like me with no talent for drawing.
The mind, our most vital body part, must, indeed be exercised.

  5. I haven't played with the AI generator but it looks fun. I really want a rhyming dictionary. I meant to ask for one for Christmas and then drew a blank. But maybe I'll just order one! Stephen Sondheim would swear by his!

    1. Yes, it does look rather fun. I'm not familiar with a particular rhyming dictionary. Whenever I need one, I use whatever is offered online at that moment.

  6. Tried and true..of practice makes perfect, but it can still have its imperfections like finding out I invented my own crochet stitches all this time and didn't know it...among other things that I am sure the queen bees would laugh at. I'm sort of in a writer's group, but I have only been once. I do try to supply a little writing in the e-mails. Someone told me, my writing was playful and I wasn't at all serious like the others and that was why they liked to read my stories.

Of course, I find myself dreaming from time to time designing and sewing (usually a Barbie outfit since I don't want to buy clothes for the few I have. Instead, I want to recycle some stuff that I have.) But I am not that great at sewing and I still find myself giving up. In the long run, I think making myself a good meal from what I find in the fridge is just as good or better than some of these other things I wish I was good at. Just this week I made a yogurt cake.

I don't wish to be great at anything in particular, but to be able to perform basic tasks in sewing, cooking, and other daily kind of work. that people usually do.

  8. Yes I was born with two left hands and have many times tried sewing, drawing, anything but it doesn't improve much. I do some writing as you now but only now and than. I discovered AI as well and it is absolutely amazing what it can do. People create the most amazing images. I only tried out the Bing one but there are many others. I will have to take some time to discover it further

    1. That's the usual expression: "two left hands". Yes, it takes time to explore AI image generator. There are some other sites offering image creation, perhaps more sophisticated, but not for free as Bing does.

  11. I have avoided anything to do with AI, but your card is very pretty. As a former high school teacher I hear about students trying to use AI to write their papers and do their homework. Teachers have to check everything. In some ways, AI makes lazy brains.

    1. I know nothing about AI and homework. I've just become aware of its image generator. As far as creating images is concerned, I may benefit from that as I am unable to draw even a straight line.

Learning to sew was an obssession with me. I wished to know, at least how to mend my own clothes not to be dependent on my Mom or a seamstress.

  14. the card is beautiful. I don't know a thing about AI but if it enables everyone to find an outlet for their creativity, what's wrong with a bit of help to get there! I remember Burda magazine (my dad was fluent in German and travelled every month on business so used to bring German magazines home for me, Burda was one. I did make my own clothes but mainly it was for inspiration and enjoyment as the UK back in the 70s was not as trendy as Germany!

    1. You're absolutely right about AI.
Regarding Burda, I once said it deserves Nobel Prize for its contribution to people like me who want to sew, but haven't got the skill needed.

  18. That card is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the positive perspective about AI because of how it has helped you accomplish something that you've always wanted to do when it comes to art. And I teared up when I read about the elegant dress you made and presented to your mother. I enjoy your perspective on life, Duta!

  23. It is a lovely thing to have to use the internet to expand our horizons and learn more things! I feel sad when I see AI art though, I would much rather have AI do all the boring jobs than steal artist's work to learn how to make lovely things :( I hope that the people who have the lawsuits against AI for using images they have created to 'teach' the models have some success.

    1. Hi, Mica. Glad to hear from you.
I have no idea about AI stealing artist's work. I'm new to this thing.
If this is the case it will be punished by law.
However, I don't think that will happen. Every new trend, hurts people somehow. In the end, there will be acceptance, as there's room for everyone.
It's a known fact that creative people (writers, singers, painters ) 'steal ideas' and even more, from each other, and life goes on.

  26. I am not good at some things like sewing or art, but it has never been a detriment because I am better at some other things. As far as using AI for artwork, a fellow blogger has been using it all the time. Her creations are both creative and imaginative. However, it's not for me at this time. I have learned many things online
