Autumn Leaves

A lot has been written  in blogs  and elsewhere about Autumn ( Sept 1 - Nov.30). There's description of change in color, falling leaves,  drop in temperature, animals preparing for winter hibernation,  migration of birds in search of food,  autumn holidays etc..

Autumn always reminds me of the famous song the  'Falling Leaves' (in french the 'Dead Leaves'),  and  of the famous singers performing  it, among them: Ives Montagne (in french), Nat King Cole, Andy Williams,  Frank Sinatra (in english).

The musical versions of this song on Youtube are not very  good , I'm afraid.  The lyrics are beautiful and even worth memorizing.  It' s a romantic song mentioning color (red and gold),  the departing summer, the approaching winter,  the falling leaves that make the singer miss his darling.

Here are the lyrics:

The falling leaves, drift by the window  /The autumn leaves of red and gold

I see your lips the summer kisses / The sunburnt hands I used to hold

Since you went away, the days grow long

And soon I'll hear old winter's song

But I miss you most of all, my darling

When autumn leaves start to fall.

  1. I love Nat King Cole's version. There's still a good bit of colour, but winter weather is already upon us...it's not bitter cold yet, but very chilly at the early morning.

Do you have Autumn there? I picture Israel as very hot all year.

To answer your question - during the day it's still hot. The mornings are cool, the evenings are already becoming cold.

    1. 'earworm' - does that word mean you don't like it, Kathy? Well, to each his own, as they say. Besides it's not dangerous.

  5. Dearest Duta,
Well, autumn leaves are part of life's cycle and they become the humus for new growth in the spring. Provided that people do not rake them up! We've never ever done so but use it as a mulch, even on the lawn. In the woods NOBODY ever rakes leaves... Look at Mother Nature and learn.
Those songs are not my/our genre...
Autumn is a stunning season and if possible, perfect for a walk!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

The song is important as it conveys the message of Autumn's main phenomenon - the falling of leaves from the trees.

  9. Beautiful. I really like autumn - and the arboreal fireworks. I also like the filigree of bare branches against the sky as the trees lose their leaves.

  10. We don't have a lot of the leaves dropping or changing colors here because unless you go up in the mountains of Nevada, we just don't have many of those types of trees. We do have a lot of palm trees though. You don't want those leaves (Palm fronds) hitting you in the head though. lol

    1. Leaves on the tree branches are an attractive sight. Fallen leaves on the ground, on the other hand, are a headache. They could be used to enrich the soil, but usually they are raked and disposed of.

Do you know? At the time of high school there was a student in my course who imitated him perfectly.

  30. I've always liked that song, but as I've aged I'm not the fan of Autumn I used to be. I try my hardest to hold onto summer as long as possible. I miss the color in summer of the bright green grass and all the flowers. Things become quickly brown and drab to me once the summer flowers are gone. It seems just as our trees get pretty with color we have lots of rain and pouf....they're gone.

Neste caso foi a música que explorou essa possibilidade, aqui muito bem interpretada por Nat King Cole.
