SSD or HDD?

Dear, faithful followers

I'm taking a break from blogging for a while.

My PC has left me after 12 years of service. Bad timing, as I'm in the middle of a legal matter and I need to learn stuff from the internet and type some important documents.

Yes, I prefer to work on a PC. It's more stable, powerful, easier to upgrade, and cheaper than  a laptop.

The device, is positioned adequately in the room,  allowing space to prevent its getting overheated , and me the ability to see and think clearly.  I work on the computer, mainly at home, so mobility is not an issue.

Outside my home ( waiting room,  library,  cafe), I usually don't feel much at ease with reading/writing. As a matter of fact, on moving vehicles (car, bus, train, subway) I might get a sort of motion sickness when trying to read or write something. So, where possible, I look out of the window instead - quite a treat!

Anyway, it seems I have no choice now but to buy a new PC ;this one is based on the old, friendly Windows XP  operating system - and I get no updates any more. My laptop is also based on XP .Well, it can't go on like this.

I'll have to take some decisions such as: Windows  O.S. 10  or Windows O.S. 11; SSD or HDD (the older, heavier hard disk) and about some other hardware and software items.

Hopefully, things will go smoothly with both my new PC and the handling of the legal matter.

See you soon!

Hopefully, I'll get my new PC  as smoothly as possible.

  1. I know how you feel, I love working at a PC. I was so happy when I was able to bring my PC from the office which has dual screens, I don't think I can get used to a one screen PC when I have to go back to the office, plus I hate having to spend the money to get a new PC. Praying your legal situation is resolved to your advantage and we'll all be waiting for you to come back.

  2. Good luck with both the computer and your legal matter!! I know what you mean. I much prefer to work on a desktop computer than a laptop. Will look forward to your return to blogging!! I'm clueless on what to advise on what to get for a new computer/operating system. My hubby usually does the research and then takes care of the purchase.

    Take care of yourself!

  3. I really like my laptop better tan a desktop. Before I retired I actually bought a tiny keyboard for my work desktop because the full size keyboards are harder for me to use. We all have our preferences . . . .
    See you soon!

  4. You will be missed, Duta -- both your writing and your visits, which I treasure. Your comments always make me smile and I'm grateful I've found you in the blog world. I hope you can find the right computer for your needs and soon. I recently switched from Windows7 (I think) to Windows 10. It's not too much of a learning curve at all but a couple of features I liked on the other aren't automatically on this one, so in time I'll be hunting down an app or whatever you call it (program?) for movie making, hopefully another free one! I have a laptop with 1T storage and I love it but I use it like a desktop with an external keyboard and mouse because I really hate the built-in keyboards/finger pad.

I hope your work on the legal issue go well, efficiently and to your liking. I'll look forward to your return!

  5. Oh, they just don't make them like they used to. All the best at finding the right solution for you. Recently, I had a crash at work which left my hard drive in a dire need I never thought would happen. It took them over a week to replace it. Plus now I have to have administrative stuff done to it..which might take another week or two. Hopefully, I'll remember my password after all that.

All the best in the computing world.

  6. I hope you get a new one you like and soon. I've never had a PC. All of mine are Apple products.
I have had a desktop, but now I just use a laptop. I love it. Hubby has an iPad, and that is all he needs.
Good luck with the legal matter.

  8. I hope you get your new PC soon, DUTA. I, too, use a PC. Always have done. (I do have a laptop, but I never use it. To do so I'd have to remind it what it is!) I got this new one back in October.

    Take good care. :)

  9. I too hope you find the right PC for you. Because my needs are no longer great and I got a Chromebook a few years ago and I love it. I had no idea if I would. Also, about your comment on our road, I just want to let you know that our road is private, we own it, Joyce and I. So therefore we have to maintain it. Or not, but of course, we want to use it so we fix it and neighbor Charles and his machine do wonders.

  12. Hope all goes well with the legal matter and you don't lose anything you need from the PC stopping working! It's always tricky upgrading to a new computer when nothing is how you are used to it! Fingers crossed it's a smooth process for you!

Hope that you had a really good weekend! Was a quiet one here as I'm still recovering from complications after surgery.

  15. I was very sad when I had to say good bye to Windows XP - I loved it. This is quite some years ago and I did get used to Windows 7 and then 10. I work both on a PC and a laptop. I take the laptop with me when I teach, it makes things a lot easier. I hope you will find the right PC for you and you can be back soon.
