Visitation Dreams

If and when  I happen to dream during my sleep, it's usually about family members that are no longer with us. They talk, sometimes weep, but when I wake up, I don't remember any word, and that unsettles me .  I lit a candle, ask for forgiveness, say a few words in their memory; that calms me down.

These kind of dreams are important to me. They indicate that there's some  sort of connection and communication with the deceased. Things don't end completely with one's passing; the departed  'stay in touch'  somehow.

In my latest dream it was my beloved mother that made her appearance. She talked and cried. Perhaps she was asking me not to skip  my usual pre-High Holidays annual visit to her grave . We live in weird times, with a shutdown  threat upon our heads, so her fear of me not visiting, was not without reason.

The next day, I put the mask on,  and hurried to the cemetery to be at my parents' graves.
The day after , I went to the cemetery  of  an adjacent city, to visit the graves of my brother and my little  nephew.

These visits last at least an hour, during which  I wash the tombs, lit candles, and say prayers.

A friend of mine, who doesn't have dreams of that sort says I probably think often of them and they feel loved by me, that's why they appear in my dreams trying to communicate.

Well, that's true. I think of them daily, comparing them to the people I encounter. I consider them by far superior in their human qualities.

  1. I think dreams can tell us many things.

I have a relative by marriage who dreamt of her recently departed cousin. He died by his own hand. The family was understandably distraught. Many of them dreamt of him around the same time. He reassured them that he was safe and that he had made a mistake but that he had been forgiven. It brought them comfort. I once knew a young man at my church who died the same way. Many of the church members were deeply distraught because, as you probably know, that is a very serious thing. Some think you can't go to Heaven. A young girl, too young to have been told how he died, came to the funeral with a drawing of the young man dancing in Heaven and gave it to his family. She said she had seen it in a dream. When I heard about it I found it comforting.

    1. ן think dreams may try to tell us something, some sort of message. I don't remember them in detail when I wake up, But I get a general idea of things.

  3. It is good that you feel connected to your family through your dreams....it means that life goes on, even if is not the same form as life here on Earth.
    Blessings to you, Duta.

    1. I cannot and I do not want to ignore this kind of 'loose' family connection through my dreams. It gives me a sense of belonging, and that makes me feel good.
      Blessings to you too, Vera!

  4. I so wish I would dream about my parents. Those are very few and very, very far between. But I'm glad you were able to go visit the graves and connect. I always love to do that and especially on days that "matter." It sounds like it was a good thing for you to do. Yes, she was indeed connecting and you were blessed to be able to catch her message.

    1. I'm grateful for these dreams, although I feel sad and sometimes disturbed by them.
As I advance in age,I pray to God to enable me to continue visiting these graves, as it's not easy physically and emotionally.

  5. I read that Israel was going to be locked down over the High Holy days so families could not celebrate together. Is that true? Interesting with dreams. I don't know how to interpret them. I am not sure about contact with our love ones after they die. I guess we will see how that all works if it works when we pass away.

    1. Yes, starting with tomorrow, Friday at 2 p.m. we're going into lockdown, again, for at least 3 weeks.
In my humble opinion, schools and other crowded places, should not reopen until some reliable vaccine is available. And if not, then we're almost done.

  6. Love that last sentence. There has to be more beyond the veil. I believe it.

    1. The 'beyond the veil', the unknown state of life after death, becomes a little less mysterious, less hidden, with visitation dreams and visits at the graveyard. That's how I feel.

  7. Hi Duta, very touching post and your heart for your beloved memory of your Mom and loved ones and how you honor their memory. Praying Peace to your heart and a blessed High Holiday time to you. Much love,

    1. I believe we all have to honor the memory of our dear departed family members. It's both a duty and a pleasure.
      Love to you, too, Shayndel!

    1. Strange as it may sound, while there I've got the feeling that I'm home, with my parents, not in a cemetery, surrounded by graves.I talk to them, wish them to rest in peace, and say 'a good word to God' for me.

  9. I must confess never to having a dream anything remotely connected to such as you experience.

    1. That's OK. People experience different things at different places and different times. There's even a certain beauty in that.
I remember your comment about the 'carnivorous' plant that has attacked me at the cemetery. You haven't experienced that either (lucky you!).

  10. You were wise to visit, with your lockdown.
I often have my late parents visit my dreams. No crying, though! I do think, in my dreams, that they are dead and I am happy to see them.

    1. So, I'm not the only one who gets visitations. You often get them and,as you say, you're happy to see your late parents.

  11. Thank you for the "walk-down-memory-lane"... I've had a couple of visit dreams about my daddy. No crying though and, I was always glad for the visit.

He would always show up when I was about to make an un-wise decision/choice. He would lovingly caution me me about the choice I was about to make. Looking back, those visits save me from a LOT of grief.

I haven't had one in a loooonng time. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm sure your daddy's appearance in your dreams helped you with your decisions; that's what parents are for-whether alive or dead.

  12. I also believe they are still with us, help us and love us. Such a wonderful spiritual experience you have with your dreams!

    1. A spiritual experience, indeed! The spiritual turns into physical with a visit by the graves and work to be done about.

  13. I have had nightmares almost every night for 35 years. So I don't have good types of family visitation dreams.

    1. We all have occasional nightmares, but you seem to imply something like a nightmare disorder, in that it occurs often and probably disrupts your sleep.
I suppose there are ways to deal with that. Perhaps you've done little or nothing about it.

  15. I don't go to cemetaries, I carry people I love in my heard and they are with me on photos in my room. Anyway more and more people get incinerated and there are no graves to visit. I have been on a few incinerations but can't remember a single funeral.

    1. I've heard that from other people too. Well, each to his own, as they say.
Here, because of increasing lack of space, they've introduced burial in 3 storey structures (see my last picture: there's the childrens' lot, and near it a structure for adults).

  16. Shanah tovah to you Duta and perhaps your dreams are more significant t this time. Thank you for sharing this post and glad you were able to visit your families resting places before the latest lockdown, which I have read about. I admit that I do not visit graves of family members, but I do remember them often.

I cannot start a new year without visiting those graves. I feel I need my family's blessing.

  17. That's a wonderful friend to give you that advice. I'm sure she's correct and that your loved ones feel your love. I've never been a big dreamer and if I do dream I don't remember them. My sister Lisa on the other hand dreams all the time and loves to share them with me. They are not always as entertaining and interesting to me as they are to her though. I think people with open hearts and open minds tend to dream more. If it brings you comfort then I am glad that your loved ones reach out to you.

    1. My friend was just telling me her opinion, not giving me any advice. I thought, however, she might be right. My departed beloved, felt my constant interest in them, so they tried to communicate with me by dream.

  18. I don't ever remember having a dream with my dad in it, and have had a couple with my mom in them, but not as a "main" character in the dream. Kind of, just in the background. They live in my heart, though, and I, as you, think of them daily.

  19. I like what you spoke of. It makes me feel better about my own dreams now. The few I have had are my mother and grandmother arguing. I don't think they ever argued when I was actually around them, but they always loved to vent to me about the other. Of course, they are always wanting me to make friends with better people.
Wonderful trip you made. You are so insightful!

Your mother and grandmother arguing - that's the eternal argument of mother and daughter. It reaches the dreams too.

  20. So loving of you to visit your parent's graves. I remember a few months after my sister passed, She greeted me--I heard her voice in those sisterly expressions and I shot up in my bed thinking she was in my room. I can still hear it. I just know in my spirit she is healed and whole!

  23. Like you, I dream of loved ones who have passed on. Usually their first visits show them as being healthy and happy, so that I'm able to cope with the loss a little better. Then there are other times they pop in with messages that wake me up. I write it down because I've been known to forget the message too. Sometimes the messages are clear, and there are other times I have to check with other family members to understand. I definitely believe that dreams are blessings. Hope you are doing well! Hugs, RO
