Coronialism

I've recently come across this new term - coronialism - which refers to the danger of a new order, a new society being established -  based on the restrictions and urgencies caused by the fear of the corona virus, covid-19.

Personally, I'm not afraid of 'new' and of restrictions. The situation now seems to be close to anarchy in many parts of the world, so, there's great need for regulating factors, imposing law and order on people to get us out of the pandemic.

It's too soon to pass judgement, draw conclusions, as we're still amid the pandemic. The word  'coronialism',  however, gives us food to thought, especially as it sounds like another -ism  word -colonialism - an historical - geographical process notorious for its oppressive forces.

Most people regard covid-19 as a temporary nuissance that will vanish with the appearance of the right vaccine. Perhaps, (an expert has just offered his belief that by March it'll be over), but its consequences on our economic, social, environmental, and political life will be far- reaching. The world won't be the same. We should better get used to the idea.

In what way will the world change? I don't  know for sure. I only hope it's for the better as we've been living till now in bubbles, in lies, in pretense, in corruption,  beyond our means. So, perhaps coronavirus will bring with it, besides the unfortunate disease and death, also a blessed transformation. We have to believe that.

    1. So, they say. A couple of years is a long time, too long!

  2. I sure hope so! I realize we won't ever go back to what we had before, the world didn't after September 11th. I just hope it is that beautiful transformation you mentioned. I hope it isn't an anarchy state. That does concern me and it's mainly for the young I worry about. I have lived my life. I hope they get to in a style similar to how I grew up.

    1. I see you keep repeating the word 'hope'. Well, hope is indeed all we have. We have to believe it wouldn't let us down.

  3. Hadn't heard of the new word myself until you wrote it...interesting how new words come about.
So many people just don't seem to care about he virus, they wish to continue as normal, then there are those who worry too much from what I'm hearing.
Life will never be the same as we once knew it even if we get a vaccine that works. People will have changed some for the better, some not..
    Take care.

    1. I came upon this word in an article written by a professor and social activist.
Sadly, most people live in illusions, and it'll be tough for them to face the upcoming reality.

  4. Coronalism seems a great word that very powerful in many aspects.

    1. Indeed; great and powerful almost like the other -ism words: colonialism, imperialism, capitalism etc..
It marks a new era, so the word and its meaning should not be taken lightly.

  5. It is a word that I had not come across but is appropriate for the times we live in. I think we are all speculating as to the degree of change caused by the pandemic that will become a permanent feature of our lives. What the future holds for the children of today I can barely imagine - and when I permit myself to contemplate it briefly it is not good.

    1. I keep writing on the coronavirus issue as things are looking bad here, and I'm worried.
Yes, "we are all speculating.."; we know deep down that the corona might leave us and the young ones, with a "scorched earth".

  6. I love this new word. And you're right -- this is not going to end in the way people think. It's already made significant changes worldwide and some of those changes will, I think, become permanent. Others will evolve and in all ways -- what we do, how we live, travel -- not to mention the impact on the world economy. We will need to learn to adjust.

    1. Me too. And I think this word has its right place on the list of -ism words/concepts that have had a great impact on history of mankind over the years.

  7. Your last paragraph speaks volumes and are my concerns as well. But there has to be uniform controls and most people in US value their personal rights over doing ther right thing to protect others.

    1. I hear about protests against restrictions, and I'm aware of human rights. Sometimes, however, we have to display common sense and flexibility, as our life and the life of others is at stake.

  8. It's such a mess in the US. Canada is doing better. We'll see what happens when school goes. We live in interesting times.

    1. Here too, the focus is on schools, and tension is great.
I've got the strange feeling that by the end of the month, schools will be closed, and perhaps partial or full lockdown imposed on the citizens.

  9. I hope the world will change for the better, too.

I hope that common sense comes back into fashion...that the "Me-Me" Society/way of thinking and living is a thing of the past. Where selfishness and being self-centred fade into oblivion. I hope respect, consideration and goodwill towards our fellowman spread faster than any pandemic.

Keep taking good care, DUTA :)

    1. Yes, we're all rather scared of what is ahead of us - winter with its cold days, the flu, and now the additon of corona.
May God strenghten us, and keep us healthy!

  11. Well observed, ..... we must have hope to keep going forward and keep faith that all will be well, even if at the moment the whole world seems to be in a state of flux!

Hope and Faith - without these two we are done. Luckily, most of us have them both.

I suppose, by now, most of us are well aware of the fact that things are going to be different. Schools , for instance, will not be the same.

  13. I so agree with you. Covid-19 will pass, as the virus 100 years ago. Too much politics and fear involved in all of this, that's for sure. We're very happy with the common sense approach in our State, but many others are suffering terribly by political interference to finding a rational solution to the problem.

    1. Politics can sure worsen things. Israel is a good example of that.
There should be no political interference in health issues! It's a matter of life and death.

  14. I just commented on another blog about the fact that I don't believe that the disease is being passed through the day to day things that we are being restricted from, such as going to the doctor or shopping for necessities. I believe it's being passed through those people that are not going to be "bullied" into following the mandates that experts are handing out. Those people are still having large gatherings in their homes for birthdays and other celebrations, no masks, no distancing. These people feel entitled to continue "living my life" with no regard for anyone other than themselves and their life.

It is sad that in this day and age everything is divisive. You can post on Facebook that you went to a certain store or restaurant and you will instantly get people commenting that that place "sucks" and it's awful and only an idiot would go there and battles ensue. If someone hates a certain restaurant, go write your own post about it, don't mess up my happy! Sorry...this has just been a day of me being on my soapbox...lol! I think I'm going to go and work on some art instead. Take care dear DUTA and stay safe.

    1. "..in this day and age everything is divisive." So true, and so sad!

Since the virus outbreak, I go out mainly for necessities. I don't know enough about the virus to go back to
doing things or going to places as before. I respect the guidelines of mask, gloves, social distancing , and I think everyone should do that. It's a minimum reqirement, and has nothing to do with violation of human rights.

I like the word "humbled"; the mess caused by the virus has shown us our real place in the universe.

  18. What bothers me is that every little corner in the world has other rules and then restriction travels, others can travel and bring the virus to another countryn, so it will never end. One of our friends was in contact with virus infected person, has to do the test and eventually stay in quarantaine, while his wife and children can go to work and school !
That's not logical at all !

    1. Much confusion everywhere! Still, things depend on daily number of tests and number of confirmed cases. So far, restrictions are mostly based on these two parameters.
Indeed, Gattina, one gets the feeling it'll never end.

  19. You mean - new and good. We're craving for good things to happen, such as an efficient vaccine, or a sudden disappearance of the virus. In short, some kind of miracle.

  20. Not come across this word before.

With Covid 19 there seems to be a 'new normal' being established! Not easy but we need to take care.

    All the best Jan

    1. Well, the word is not common. It has just appeared in one article that I've managed to read. Maybe it'll get publicity.
You're right about "a new normal" whatever that may mean now, and in the future.

      Delete
  21. Yes, we are in a new normal, Duta, and sadly it seems it will be this way for quite some time. And, like you, I too wonder about what that means because it's nothing like "normal" in my mind. While I believe in taking every precaution we can, it seems that some extremes are being seen as well.
