Good Things That Might Happen in 2019

According to the Media, tiny Luxemburg is to become the first country in the world to make its public transport - free.  That would be a very smart move, worthy to be followed by other small countries with  limited territory and lack of natural resources.
The advantages of such a move are enormous: it would ease congested traffic and make the roads safer,  improve ecology, and above all - improve people's health.

Cannabis is gradually getting legalized in various parts of the world. It's a positive direction, and it should include as many countries as possible. I'm in favor of legalization of this plant which is said to have the potential of easing the suffering of the sick (cancer/ parkinson patients and others). They say, it is not addictive like alcohol, and not harmful like smoking.

Egypt's president, El-Sisi, has recently launched a rhetorical 'attack' on the overweight in his country and told egyptians they should take better care of themselves. Opposition to his words is loud, invoking poverty, junk food, faulty health care, and the other usual slogans; but his clear voice on the matter is a start, a good one, even though he might do nothing practical about it.
It seems El-Sisi is the right guy  in the right place who might bring about significant changes in his country (including the issues of obesity and the alarming birth rate), setting an example to the other countries in his continent.

Scientific researches  of the last couple of years might give us, in 2019, a clue as to the workings of the human mind. It's quite a mystery when a person who has it all: career, family, money, love,  - takes his own life (recent case in my country), and leaves family and all around him utterly devastated and grieving. We need some more insight into that super computer - the brain- to be able to prevent, perhaps, this kind of tragedy.

Happy 2019!

I think the word 'interesting' (interesting things) is even more adequate than 'good' (good things) as the good, sometimes turns out to have bad sides too.

  2. I've read that about Luxembourg too! Splendid! Wish we could all be on the level of Iceland, Luxembourg or Scandinavian countries.
All of the people I know that have cured themselves from cancer have used cannabis oil! When and if Trump destroys big pharma industry maybe the whole world will be able to cure themselves with cannabis or amigdaline. They're mafia who prefers us nice and sick.
You forgot to ad that we will meet aliens next year :)... but maybe that won't be good news in the end?
Happy New Year to you and all in the Holy Land of Israel! May you live long and prosperous. And may both of our countries be spared from the wars with bloodthirsty Muslims.

    1. Oh, Dezmond, you're so very right about the pharma industry! They want us "nice and sick", indeed.
I don't know whether cannabis cures, but it is said to bring relief to people in great pain, and that's good enough reason to make it accessible.

Happy New Year to you and to your lovely country Serbia! May we indeed be spared from wars and lead a normal, prosperous life!

    2. Yes, when some of my US friends were sick from cancer and I started listing them all the natural cures I know of that help with it I was shocked to discover how many (if not all) were illegal in their country even though the rest of the world uses them freely. Their big pharma just needs them sick and dying so that they could such all the money from the desperate ones on regular hospital treatments and chemo. You'd be surprised with what success they treat all those and many other major illnesses in Russia or Cuba where there is no pharmaceutical mafia. I could not even send my cancer ill sister in USA some amigdaline, Russian chaga or cannabis oil because they'd confiscate it at the customs. They really want their people sick and dead. The same as the story with Monsanto, GMO and other sick things they are doing to lawfully enforce GMO products in their farm lands (did you know, for example, that in USA it is illegal for farmers to exchange seeds and even to collect seeds from their own crops? They want them all buying GMO seeds from MOnstanto).... sickness, Dutie, rotten sickness...

    3. I totally believe you, Dezmond. Thanks for sharing such vital information. I'm going to read about the names you've just mentioned: amigdaline, russian chaga, cannabis oil. You're like an encyclopedia, I must say!
The Monsanto story is also frightening!

Hope your sister in the USA ,as well as your mentioned friends are OK.

  7. Happy New Year, Duta!
You are right, in a large country, like Canada, free transportation is impossible. It is much too costly. It is subsidized, however.
    We've legalized cannabis in Canada.
Depression is the result of a chemical imbalance, not easily cured. It can be managed. Oil really helps me with symptoms (high blood pressure, anxiety). There is no evidence Cannabis cures anything!

    1. Canada is ahead of many other countries in many aspects of life. It's considered a top quality country. So, no wonder it has legalized cannabis.

Perhaps, cannabis doesn't cure but at least it brings some relief to those in great pain, and that's a great deal.

In fact, I believe only God can cure. Science does come up with important breakthroughs and relief methods which certainly have their place, but, I'm afraid, no final cure when it comes to major health issues. Complete cure is God's domain.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

  8. Suicide is something that I've looked into a lot. I've suffered from depression my entire life and none of the medications I've taken have done anything to help. I tend to understand how someone with what seems to be everything can still be unhappy and so depressed that they kill themselves. There's still so much we need to learn about mental illness.

    1. Sorry to hear that.
The person I was referring to was examined and treated by best professionals money and connections could obtain. These people told his wife he's doing fine, showing constant progress and improvement ( he had two previous unsuccessful attempts in the past.) She felt the same about him.

Well, a week ago she left home for half an hour and when she came back he was gone forever. The wife told the media (he was a famos singer and guitarist) that his depression was caused by some great, unsolvable pain in his feet. Whatever it was, it sure shocked everyone, and it made people express their demand that greater priority be given to research on the various forms of depression.

  9. Lots of good issues here, Duta! People would definitely benefit for all you mentioned. Depression must be horrible for all those who suffer from it. And the free public transit would be great. The best to you in the new year, Happy New Year!

I hadn't seen that in the news about Luxembourg. I do think it would help if countries could give help with transport costs, as surely more people would use it and relieve transport congestion!
    Just a thought …

Many thanks for your blogging friendship this past year.
My good wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2019.

  13. All excellent items to look forward to. I just can't see that happening in the USA. I've tried to get my mother to try cannabis. I think it would help her get relief from the pain in her leg due to DVT and maybe it would give her an appetites, she's always been such a poor eater. But in her mind it's drug and dangerous. Recently we've start giving a Cannabis oil to our little dog Chorizo for pain in her legs and it helps her so much, maybe mom will take it as a sign. Happy New Year to you DUTA and to your faithful readers.

    1. Hi Alicia,
If your Mom has pain from a clot in her leg, she should first of all wear a compression sock. Secondly, she could take one or more of the natural supplements that are blood-thinning (Omega3, Garlic, Vitamin E tocopherol,White Willow bark extract, etc...).

Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year
      with good health and prosperity!

  14. And in Belgium which has a border with Luxemburg they just increased transport fees, finally it's getting cheaper to take the car !
I fully agree with you on Cannabis, it had been legal until in the 70th were chemical drugs started and both together got mixed up. Otherwise it's true it is a plant also for healing, certainly better than alcohol which is a hard drug !

  17. Good for Luxembourg... what a great idea.
It takes courage by politicians to bring about change, ours do not have that in them.
Yes, wouldn't it be good for more to be known about depression. So many medications are available, I feel sorry for someone trying to navigate their way through and to find the right fit.
Thank you for all your thoughtful posts Duta, it's lovely to start another year with you. I hope it brings much contentment to you. My warmest regards, Sue xx

  19. O Duta, and our Dutch public transport is one of the most expensive in Europe. Not funny. In the Netherlands usage of your bike is encouraged rather than public transport. But as a student, you can usually travel for free or with a 40% discount.

In the Netherlands, doctors can prescribe cannabis and cannabis preparations for symptoms caused by multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, cancer, long-term pain and the tics associated with Tourette’s syndrome. (source: The Guardian). My son is using oil.

The best "thing" out of your country, I used every year in flu-time (als in 2019) is: Sambucol. Do you know it?

    1. The bicycle, especially the electric one, has become a star on our roads and lanes. Unfortunately, there have been quite a lot of accidents, and now there are new and strict regulations intended to prevent them.

Sambucol, the elderberry syrup, is quite popular in Israel. I myself don't recall ever taking it. Whenever I have a cold, I squeeze a lemon, drink its juice undiluted for a sore throat. As for fever, I use ice packs.
