Cool and Soothing 'Green Lung'

The modest fountain in the above picture is not  placed, as most of the traditional ones, in the middle of a town square. This fountain with a circular basin , and straight, perpendicular falling water is located in a corner, a very strategic one - facing two long, busy roads, one of which (Ben-Gurion Rd. ) is dividing two cities (Bney- Brak and Ramat-Gan).

Even on hot days as our summer days are, it's quite cool near the fountain, and the sound of the falling water is very soothing. The whole spot is a little gem with grass, flowers, young trees and benches. It looks well kept - no litter, no mosquitos of any kind. There's no children's playground around, so the spot is usually quiet. It is a place mostly for young couples, teenagers, elderly people, passers by.

a cool, quiet little gem

Whenever I'm in the area I take the time to sit on a bench  and enjoy the serenity of the spot. Behind the fountain there's a coffee shop, one of the many coffee shops belonging to the fine chain called 'Aroma'. It's a pleasure to sit at a table outside the cafe with a cup of coffee and a sandwich and contemplate the fountain and its visitors.

This spot is a blessed genuine 'green lung' in an urban area. It creates a much needed balance between Man and Nature, development and environment. We definitely need more of the kind.

Across the street there's an interesting high  statue exhibit named "the sky is the limit,"  composed of human figures in motion . Like the fountain, this outdoor colorful work of art  gives people not only visual pleasure, but also much food to thought.

    1. Thank you. There's something about this waterfall that is not typical, not the usual cascade jets.

  2. Again you found a most beautiful spot. I love that fountain, it looks like you are looking a rain coming down in a sheet. I think this weekend I am going to find a peaceful place to just sit and enjoy without rushing around trying to get everything done! One must do that sometimes. Thanks for reminding me of that DUTA :)

    1. To me it looks like a curtain with rain coming down from it.
Simplicity is very relaxing, and this spot is arranged in an almost geometrical simplicity.

  3. The neat thing about the colorful artwork is the various interpretations people have. The Sky is the Limit shows me the levels of risks taken. I like idea of enjoying a cup of coffee near the sound of water and watching people!

    1. The statue is indeed subject to interpretations, and that's the beauty of it. People even try to climb it; there's a warning near it not to to do that.

    1. It's only a tiny 'green lung' , but nonetheless one that provides healthy, relaxing environment in a heavily polluted by cars area.

  8. Duta, what a soothing spot to relax by! The sound of falling water like this is the most soothing sound in the world to me. I've always wanted to live near an ocean to hear the waves lap, but a waterfall would work. :-) Drink a little coffee, relax and think good thoughts as you watch the world go by and listen to the water falling!

    1. Indeed, it is a very attractive work of art.
This metal cut-out colorful sculpture was created by David Gerstein, an israeli painter and sculptor. He's even got a website with great gift ideas on the same principle: movement, variety of colors, people.

  10. I love good coffee and sitting at coffee shops. I think it's great to have someplace like that to go within the hustle and bustle of city life. We all need to take time out for ourselves.

    1. Location of the coffee shop is also important; some like it near a quiet, green spot like the one above; others like it in an area full of people and activities. In both cases, it's time well spent.

  12. Such a blessing in the urban `landscape` to have such a fountain!! I was just practicing writing in `calligraphy` the verse `With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation`, and then was `drawn` to come here, so it was a joy to see your post!! Also this week in the weekly parsha we are reading about Moses hitting the rock and drawing water from the rock (though he was supposed to speak to it,not hit it!!), so again I was blessed by the connection to see the fountain in Israel that you share with us this week!! Shalom!! Love from rainy season in Japan!!

  18. Loved this post, DUTA! It's nice to have a quiet, public venue, where children (love them) aren't running about, making noise. Wish I could join you on a bench, with coffee and a sandwich...we would find so much to talk about!
