Ayurveda

I 've mentioned more than once the fact that I like the quality of certain categories of items produced in India: fabrics, clothing, kitchenware, decorations.  Most of all, I like their ayurvedic bar soaps.

The ayurvedic soaps are  based on the Ayurveda traditional medical system originating in India, and  practiced in India and Nepal.

The basic principle of Ayurveda is both  to prevent and treat illness by creating balance  between body, mind and environment. It does so by using products, mainly (but not only), derived from plants, in combination with other well-known wellness factors such as diet and exercise.

There's quite a  variety of ayurvedic hand bar soaps to be found in Health  Stores. The stuff is imported, and thus not cheap. Most of them are handmade, and enriched with  oils derived from the Tulsi (holy basil) and Neem plants.

They usually come  in standard size and mini size (fit for travel).  People buy them for their anti- bacterial /anti-fungal properties, and also to treat certain bad skin conditions.

My favorite brand is called Medimix. It is said to be enriched with 18 herbs and some natural oils.  I use liquid soap as well, but  I won't give this bar soap up as I like its texture and scent.

  1. This is a good recommendation, thank you. I'm going to check into it. Holy basil is a wonderful plant.

    1. I'm glad you think so.There are many brands available. You can read about each of them and decide on what suits you best. Price is also important. I suppose there are ways to get the product cheaper.

  2. Sounds interesting. Next time we visit a health store, I'll have to check and see if it's available. Currently we are using scent free soap. We always use scent free products and here evrything is scented.

    1. Bill, I'm for scent free products either. By that I mean, I'm not for adding fragrance to the process of making the particular product.
The ayurvedic soap is a natural product based on herbs and natural oils, and these have fragrances. So, there should be some scent in the final format of the soap.
'Medimix' has a subtle, vague scent, one can enjoy and live with.

    1. I must admit, I'm not familiar with the other names: Himalaya, Charcoal, Chandrika, Aeromere etc..
I suppose reading the details is neccessary before deciding to buy any of the ayurvedic soaps.

  5. I will have to see what is available here. I do like hand made soaps which generally are MUCH more natural than the commercial ones. Natural is indeed best.

  6. Natural anything is best of all. Interesting to read about these soaps. Janice

    1. There's more to Ayurveda than the soaps, but I haven't got the time to go deeper into it. Anyway, it's an interesting topic, and the soaps are its most popular side.

    1. 'Natural Groceries' - so, that's how Health Stores are called in the neck of your woods. That's good to know.

  8. Duta, around here I haven't seen them. It would be very interesting to get them since yurveda means "The science of long and happy life". Ayurveda is an ancient art of healing, which has been practiced in India for more than 5000 years uninterruptedly.

    1. Non-alergenic is always good. I don't know whether these soaps are defined as non-alergenic. One has to go into details and find out.

    1. I haven't seen much publicity on these soaps. When you enter a health shop , you see them in the soap section along with other types of soap.

  11. Ayurveda is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a fine balance between the mind, body, and spirit. I totally believe that.
I will look for ayurvedic hand bar soaps.

  12. Yes, indeed- there's much logic in this belief that health depends on balance and harmony between the mind, body, and spirit.

    1. Generally, I beleve one should be cautious when changing items in use (food, cosmetics, medical), as change might cause unpleasantness or even damage.

  14. Hi Duta, Shalom! Wow, one thing i notice is that you are an influencer, all the comments are now interested in what you are recommending. With that, I have a hope and prayer that you will also use this quality to promote the things of Israel!! Which you do < I`m sure, but just to mention it as we need good reports to spread from Israel and who better to do that then you!!.

Personally i love Israel soaps, and was so blessed by a friend`s souvenir she brought me olive oil soap from the Holy Land of Israel!!

Thanks for hearing my heart, and my request, Especially as we come into the harvest season, I love to see you post about the goodness of the land of Israel!❤️

    1. Well, Shayndel .It's not that I'm trying to influence others to do or buy something. I just wish to tell about my experience.
Yes, there are some good olive oil soaps in Israel. The Holidays are approaching and the harvest celebration falls in Sukkot.
I used to go to a Harvest Festival at an adjacent agricultural school, but now it's difficult for me. Aging is no light matter.❤️

  15. Those sound very nice, Duta. I like the fact that they are in both large and travel sizes, too..

    1. The mini size (of my brand) is not always available. These soaps are imported; probably most customers are looking for the standard size. I think the other brands might have the mini or travel size.

  23. You're welcome, Sandra. Ayurveda is an interesting topic; it translates from Sanskrit as 'knowledge of life'.

I agree about Indian made fabrics, kitchenware and decorations.

    1. Sometimes, I think maybe in my 'former life' I was born in India (because of my liking of India-made products). Well, the products are imported, as I've never ever even been to India.

  25. My brand of soap hasn't change since the late 60s. Since then...so long ago...I always have used Imperial Leather. A creature of habit am I....but I like it, and it has never caused any skin reactions.

    Take care. :)

Well, Lee that's a good habit, as this is a quality soap.
