"Fake It Till You Make It"

The 'fake' element is everywhere: in the news, in science, in high-tech, in relations between people, relations between countries etc...

The worst form of fake is within the family. Fake family members will pretend to care about you and love you, but they'll disappear when help is needed. There are many examples of parents and siblings left to struggle alone with their problems , especially health issues. It's very frustrating when one realizes that  a trusted family member has been faking intentions towards you all along.

Fake science is called pseudoscience, and it consists of beliefs that claim to be scientific and factual, but are incompatible with the scientific method. For instance, health alternative therapies and remedies.   I must admit, I don't care whether these methods are considered fake, as long as they help me, and some of them do help me.

Fake news are deliberately fabricated to deceive readers and  spread misinformation for various reasons, mostly political, ideological  ones partly for business interests or for fun.  We have them all the time, and they do society a lot of damage. During the last years, fake news travel fast via social platforms (Facebook, What's up, etc...).

There's, sadly, no compassion among people or countries. Relations are based mainly on Interest - interest in things that might offer mutual or one-sided advantage.

The approach of  'fake it until you make it'  is sometimes seen in the Hightech industry - which is highly competitive.  By pretending to have certain skills and projecting confidence, one believes it's possible to achieve a  dream job.

It's a cruel world, and it's difficult to  live real  in a fake culture.

  1. It's a never ending search for the genuine, in people and ideas.

    1. Very true. It would appear that the genuine in people is a rarity.

  2. We can't control what someone else does, only what we ourselves do. So we can be real, not fake. That's all we can do.

    God bless you, Duta!

    1. We can be real and genuine; so can others. It depends on us. It's not a matter of controlling someone, if he's not genuine and remarks won't help, we'd better part and go our way.

  3. Duta, it is that way here too - I find it more in friends than family - not that the family is always there. I do agree with you. It is sad what is happening.

    1. Sad indeed, and it's ,as you say, mostly with friends. Trusting someone, and then discovering he's been faking it all along, can be heart-breaking.

    1. Yes, it is. It does a lot of damage to society through misinformation and disinformation.

  5. When my husband passed away 2 years ago his sister completely cut me and my daughter off. They blocked both of us on all social media and stopped talking to us. For no reason. They were fake nice for 30 years and then just stopped right after their brother passed away. I was completely blind sided by their actions. I never thought they would do that. Fake people are the worst.

    1. Unbelievable! Yet, I know some people with similar stories. She should have kept good relations with you and daughter at least out of respect for her brother's memory.

    2. It is easy to be taken in by someone who pretends to care. That makes it harder to trust others. Finding people who are genuine is hard but worth it however. For me, pretentious people are the worst.

  6. I believe the pretentious people, those who see themselves as above average, are also those who disappoint us with regards to honesty and genuity.

  9. Fake people, hard to rely on anyone these days.
Way back when women worked at home all helped each other, these days it's so very different.
Fake news, happens all the time and it's a disgrace.

    1. Way back, there was trust in people, help and compassion among them. Nowadays, we've become suspicious of others, and rightly so.

  10. It really is a mad mad world. And now artificial intelligence is the blame for fake news too. But deep down it's being human and the greed we crave. Yes, being kind to one another is key. And living on less can bring more to your day. These days being natural is now a bad thing. Oh, the twists and turns of society. Just giving us more anxieties to deal with to keep us up at night. Yes, you have certainly given us a lot to think on. And I am honestly glad you are here.

  12. You are so right. Fake news here is terrible. Probably on both sides. Definitely on one. AI/Chat GPT is creeping me out, too. This is a thoughtful and astute post, Duta. And excellent food for thought. Meanwhile, thanks again for your visits to Marmelade Gypsy. I always smile when I see your comments!

  13. You got to stay informed these days to figure out if its fake or real. You can't just take it at face value, if in doubt do a bit of research to keep yourself informed with reality.

  16. When I was reading the history of lobotomies, it must have been clear to the doctors doing them that they were maiming or killing as many patients as they were helping. These non surgeons' response was always to keep on trying until they got it right.

  17. I think the Internet and Social Media have made fake news more prevalent. An article is written with much wrong information, many read it and spread its contents and it goes around the world in no time. Fake family and friends have been around a long time unfortunately. You are so right. It is sad though how humans act with each other. At least one can count on the love of a pet, a dog or a cat or another animal.

    1. Sad. Humans have lost trust in their fellow men, so they look for love and loyalty in their pets.

  22. Social media is good but we have to differentiate the fake from the genuine news. It is also same with the fake or genuine people. The fake will disappear when help is needed but the genuine will stay true.

  24. Fake news seems to be prevalent especially in social media and I am constantly amazed that many people don't seem to be able to recognise it and seem to believe everything they read. I sometimes feel I am the only one that doesn't believe all that is in the media.

  25. Fake news seem to come with the social media, making one often feel uncomfortable and frustrated. That's how things are , and we could do very little or nothing about it.

  28. Let's be real, embrace our uniqueness, and sprinkle some humor along the way.

And my simplr tip for fake news: Cross-examine the evidence. Don't be fooled by flashy headlines or sensational claims. Dig deeper, check multiple sources, and look for consistent information. It's like solving a puzzle, connecting the dots to get the bigger picture.

keep it real, and happy fact-checking!
