Several years ago, I wrote a post about a cafe in my hometown - a small place specializing in coffee brands and selling a variety of pastries and snacks (rather expensive).
Sometimes, the cafe would also offer its customers a mini musical show, performed by one or two music players.
Since Covid , things don't look too bright about this place. Anyway, they've come up with an attraction: a metal little statue of a jazz saxophonist. It is placed outside the coffee shop ,near the pavement. The sight of it is enjoyed by its customers, as well as by customers of the adjacent McDonalds eatery and passersby.
jazz saxophonist
I enjoy contemplating it too . Whenever I'm in the area I stop to have a look at it. It reminds me of some great music and musicians. Of course, it also reminds me of Bill Clinton, the USA president ( a saxophone player in his college days), who has contributed to the popularity of the sax.
(Examining closely the several photos I took of the figurine, made me angry. It is not well-maintained; it seems to be covered with a thin layer of dust. It should be cleaned often as it is outside, close to traffic and subject to climate elements).
Good coffee and good music. A perfect combination :)
ReplyDeleteExactly. Good coffee and good music go well together.
DeleteIn the antique world in which I own an antique store, we call that patina. If one cleans up an old piece it loses its value. Just a thought. It is a struggle for small businesses to succeed as they do not have the buying power to offer lower prices, but we do need these small shops to survive. Janice
ReplyDeleteYou may be right about the patina. I don't know. To me it looks in the photo like plain dust.
DeleteThe place is small and easily becomes crowded; because of Covid, people look for bigger space. So, it has become less successful.
It is cute too bad not maintairned
ReplyDeleteYes, it's very cute , and offers pleasure to the beholder.
DeleteI too would be interested in the statue. I'd enjoy studying it and then I would enjoy watching people as they looked at it. Shame it isn't taken care of better though.
ReplyDeletebetty
The statue is up, people can't touch it, and don't notice the dirt. Nevertheless they derive much pleasure from looking at it.
DeleteLovely to see that you have returned - 'welcome'.
ReplyDeleteOne would think someone was delegated to clean that statue due to where it's positioned - a cafe needs things to be clean, makes me wonder whether it's clean in the cafe..
Thanks for welcoming me. I'm still tired from the holidays, and have a lot of things to do , but blogging does me good, so here I am.
ReplyDeleteThe cafe is not what it used to be before Covid, and that's a pity.
Glad you’re back. Regine
ReplyDeletewww.rsrue.blogspot.com
Thanks a lot, Regine.
DeleteGlad you are back! Hope you did well.
ReplyDeleteThank you ,Jenn. I'm glad it's over, as this Holyday period is not easy; it involves both physical and spiritual efforts.
DeleteGlad you are back! Oh, you might have to write those guys an anonymous letter to keep this guy clean. But after Covid a lot things aren't like they were. Less staff. Around here, some sold out. Our Down Town Coffee shop was sold to someone who actually knows how to make coffee..so there are some pleasant surprises. All the best to a productive October.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea! Thanks. I'll have to think about it, though, as I'm not in the habit of writing anonymous letters.
DeleteAll the best to you, too!
Perhaps the coffee shop owners/operators have so much on their hands just trying to stay afloat after the hard times experienced during the pandemic, regular cleaning of the statue is way down on their list of priorities.
ReplyDeleteTake good care..nice to have you back, DUTA. :)
Could be. I haven't made any inquiries. Perhaps there is even a change of owners.
DeleteThanks for the comment, and your kind welcoming words, Lee.
Pity the figure isn't maintained but it is a wonderful way to remember. I'm sorry the cafe isn't the same -- so many places aren't. But maybe it will rebound in time. I hope so.
ReplyDeleteRight. Despite its apparently poor maintenance, it's still a great attraction, and a wonderful way to remember musicians.
DeleteWelcome back!
ReplyDeleteI like the figure. It's too bad it's not being taken care of while it sits outside.
Thank you, Mari.
DeleteI like it too, and so does everyone that sees it.
I like the statue.
ReplyDeleteThere's something about it that leaves no one indifferent. People who stop to look at it seem to enjoy it.
DeleteWelcome back to blogging ...
ReplyDeleteI like the statue; it has a certain charm about it.
All the best Jan
Thanks, Jan. I may find the right time to have a word about it with the staff or owner.
DeleteWelcome back, Duta. The statue has its charm to be sure but its placement could be better as that fan seemed distracting to me. I wondered if music is played as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beatrice. You're absolutely right about the placement.
DeleteNo, music is not played. I don't think they'll get permission for that. I even suspect they've got no permission for the public placement of the statue.
HI Duta! Nice to see you again, I hope you had a good Holidays and were able to refresh and renew, although I you wrote in one of the above comments, that also there is an aspect which requires effort, I pray that you will receive rewards in spiritual ways and other perhaps unexpected blessings in this new year!!
ReplyDeleteI imagine your hometown has many inspiring spots to stop and enjoy, i remember another article you wrote on the music school near you, and this shop. Hope there might be an effort by the shop or the community (headed by you?!!) to clean up the statue and other new fresh touches to bring enjoyment to those who come in or even pass by.
Blessings! Shalom and love, Shayndel
Hi, Shayndel! I'm always glad to get a comment from you. It has wisdom and blessings, and so makes me feel good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words.
Wishing you too a happy New Year!
I like the atmosphere I have coffee with good music. I love sax.
ReplyDeleteBefore Covid, the atmosphere was a wonderfull one. It seems to me that customers find it now problematic because of the small space.
DeleteThe statue is sure to draw attention. Yes, I agree with you. They should at least keep it free from dust.
ReplyDeleteIt draws attention to the little cafe, so the owner should make an effort to keep it clean and well.
DeleteThat statue reminds me of Fats Domino from New Orleans. I love his music.
ReplyDeleteI heard about him. He was a famous pianist, the founder of Rock'n Roll .
DeleteBoa tarde minha querida amiga Duta. Passando para desejar uma excelente terça-feira com muita paz e saúde.
ReplyDeleteThanks Luiz for your kind words. Wishing you the very Best!
Deletei would like to visit this place
ReplyDeleteNow, after Covid, it's past its glory, mainly because of its small, intimate place. It's the eateries and coffee shops with large spaces that attract customers. After all, the virus is still here.
DeleteBoa noite minha querida amiga Duta. Passando para desejar um bom final de semana.
ReplyDeleteThanks Luiz. May you have a wonderful weekend as well!
DeleteGood to see you back in blogland. So much has changed since Covid, something lovely to look at while enjoying coffee would be a treat. Hopefully, your musician will be better cared for in the future.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is good for me, but sometimes there are other things in life that require my attention.
DeleteSadly, covid is still alive and active. May God protect us!
