The Power of the Mind

There are certain people among us (fortunetellers, magicians, illusionists, mentalists) who claim to have special powers. Many years ago, one of them, an israeli by the name of Uri Geller became famous all over the world,  through his ability to bend  spoons (his powers have even been certified by the CIA after testing).

Next, he used his mental  powers to trace oil fields. This was probably where he had made a little fortune which enabled him to buy an uninhabited island in Scottland, and open his private  art collection Museum in Old Jaffa city.

I wish to believe that God has given us all, special abilities. We just have to look into ourselves, discover these abilities and  make use of  them the best we can. People  do this when trying to find healing powers, and it usually works.

We live in a period when  special powers might help us. Our life systems (education, health, justice etc..) have collapsed long before Covid's appearance, and it's probably going to be worse.

I'm not interested in bending spoons, or moving objects with the power of my mind. But, how about  moving a bad neighbor to another location?! Theoretically, I think it can be done, but I haven't got the energy and time to focus mentally on that person.

I'm not interested in tracing oil fields either, but I'm afraid we'll have to trace food sources in the not so distant future. Considering climate change, famine might be knocking on the door.

Anyhow, I'll have to do some reading on the subject and watch some relevant youtube tutorials.

  1. I love the way you ended this post. Yes, there is always YouTube. Although, neighbors can get together and help when the other neighbor is too noisy, or that they have a noisy dog while they are away. Recently, my cousin who wanted a therapy dog bought a lab pup instead. Which did not sit well with her apartment neighbors, but the pup is really liking doggie day care now.

    1. Well, we all take advantage of youtube tutorials, though not all of them are successful.

    1. See my reply to the previous commenter: not all Youtube tutorials are good. Sometimes, I have to browse through many, till I find the right one.

    1. Uri Geller was and still is a famous personality. He lived abroad many years. He came back to Israel about six years ago., and opened a museum in Jaffa.

  4. I'm not sure what to make of special powers, but I do believe in the power of prayer :) I have seen a few miracles of answered prayers. Maybe that's what we need more of to help us in the days ahead of famines and the like :) And YouTube tutorials are the best. Pretty much you can find a tutorial or a how to do on about anything and everything. We had trouble figuring out a car seat for our grandson and sure enough we went on YouTube and found what we were doing wrong :)

    1. Oh, yes, the power of prayer. Prayer to God is first thing 'on my agenda'. God answers our prayers, sometimes by direct miracle, sometimes by giving us the means (abilities, I mentioned above) to help ourselves.
Glad you've found the solution for your grandson's car seat.

  6. Telekinesis would be a great power to have right now. You would be able to move you neighbours' belongings far, far away from you. When they realized there was nothing left, they you move. :)

    1. 'Telekinesis' - sounds good. There are lots of words regarding the super natural; I've heard them all, but I hardly know their meanings.

  7. Oh my I remember that man well, he was on Australian TV several times back in the day and did wonder what happened to him, now I know. Thanks Duta.

  8. I am not interested in bending spoons either. But I am very interested in his new museum in Jaffe. A beautiful and peaceful town, and a clever collection of all the objects that Geller ever touched or that people ever sent to him.

It must have opened only recently. I didn't know of the museum last time I visited Jaffe.

    1. I'm familiar with the area of old Jaffa, but haven't been there for the last 4-5 years, so haven't seen the museum building.
I've heard it's open to groups only, and he, Uri, is the guide.
In the same area, there's a gallery belonging to Ilana Gur, an israeli living in the USA. , very popular with both locals and tourists.

  9. I, too, believe we all have a gift of one sort or another and sometimes we discover it and sometimes not. I remember reading about Uri Geller. He sounded like an interesting person.

    1. He probably is both interesting and creative. He has achieved a lot in his life. According to pictures he looks well and not his age (which should be about 75).

  10. I don't believe in any of those "powers". I don't watch magicians because they're all just tricks that they learn to do and do them well.

    1. Many react like you do - no powers, just tricks which can be learned. Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

  11. We probably all have special powers, we just need the special power to discover them...and how to put them into positive operation. The most special special power to have would be to create and spread peace throughout the world...to rid the world of hate, violence and prejudices...

    1. You're right, Lee. There's need for a special power to turn the world into a peaceful place. We- me and you, are two individuals who can hardly take care of themselves, so our contribution to world peace is minimal.

  12. We've a woman with self-appointed special powers who declared herself the Queen of Canada. She goaded people into trying to arrest some police for instituting COVID protocols. It is so funny, if it weren't so weird.

  14. I'm so interested in this subject, I wrote a soon-to-be-published novel about it: The levitation Game. I don't have any supernatural abilities, but my aunt had psychic dreams.

I'm sure it will be a success, Sharon.
Perhaps you have inherited some of your aunt's psychic ability, and you don't know it.

  16. I've got a neighbor I'd like to see move. There's a tremendous weed problem in the yard which then blows seed in my yard. I've been working on trying to get rid of thistles for 3 years. I've dug, pulled, and sprayed; but until he does something the problem isn't going away. He's my backyard neighbor and the fencerow is a mess. My side neighbor is having problems now as well, and she actually reported him to the city; which came out took pictures and told him he had to do something. He weed wacked the fencerow and left all the stuff laying there. He hasn't killed anything, or dug them up; which means they'll continue to grow. So if you do perfect your powers...just saying, lol. I also believe we have powers. Have had some interesting things happen in cemeteries while doing genealogy. Interesting post.

I hope Sandy, you'll take the time to write about the interesting things that happened to you while at cemeteries, doing genealogy.

  18. If I have any special powers they are well hidden. One of my sisters thinks I'm psychic but I just know her so well it's easy to predict her actions. I'm a real youtube fan having used to yesterday to remind myself how to mitre a corner when I was sewing.

    1. You're not alone in your disbelief in Uri Geller's super powers and in the super abilities of those who claim to have them.
As for your suggestion regarding my bad neighbor, it's a matter of education. I can't be like him or worse, doing unlawful things that cause damageto others.
Thanks for your comment, and have a lovely new week, Manuel!

  20. I agree that special powers would be nice, Duta, and I also believe that to some extent many people have them. These are not necessarily the ability to bend metal but how helpful it would be to get rid of annoying people in general.
