Food for Thought

There's a nice blog " Window to Beauty" with news from the  world of beauty products.

In  one of  its last posts, there's mention of Ariana Grande's new eau de perfume called  'God is a woman'. That's a challenging name, and gives food for thought.

I personally, see God as  a 'Super Power' , a power that has created the universe and is high above all and everything;  an omnipotent and omnipresent power that is neither a man nor a woman.

I  too refer to this power in the masculine form, as God, He, Him,   because that's how it has been referred to, for ages, and the name has solid, religious and social grounds. None of the names (God, Superpower, Universe) bothers me  as long as people  trust and respect the entity represented by God.

Another nice blog I follow is "Traveling Bug". It's about an american family that travels a lot, and brings us some great travel photos .   Lately, I find myself paying attention to the two adopted lovely asian girls in the family; they're growing up fast and it becomes interesting to observe their integration within the family and outside it.

Adoption is also a subject which gives food for thought, especially in those cases where there are already biological children, as in the  above family.

As a rule, I'm not for taking out a child from its natural, ethnical environment . In the long run, it might suffer.

As for the adopting family, when the kids, both the biological  and the adopted ones, grow up, and become aware of differences ( the obvious physical ones: such as skin color, eye shape, nose shape etc..), things in the family might get complicated. I've seen that happen. Education and good will, don't always solve problems.

So far, that's a very happy family  and the posts provide the reader with a lot of pleasure and fun.

Covid-19 is striking hard. I can't help it thinking that, perhaps, we're being punished for mistreating ourselves, others, and the Planet. So far, there seems to be no solution, except of temporary euphoria episodes caused by vaccination.

Untitled

I can't say I'm totally surprised of what's going on in the world right now: climate change and the corona virus.

I've mentioned before that I believe in God ( the Superpower) and his  Creation of the world.
I think we humans have constantly violated the order and rules of this creation by wars, colonialism, slavery, migration, globality - and now, we're probably going to pay for it.

I remember my visit to South Africa.   Apartheid was already in its last stages,  and what really puzzled me was the mere presence of the white, european people there. I kept asking myself why are they here? this continent was given by God to the black people, and it belongs to them. The europeans should be here only as tourists not as settlers.  Europe is their God- given continent for.better or for worse.

Climate Change and the Corona Virus clearly indicate that God is fed up with us and is considering a Reset whatever that may mean.

I guess that even if we survive the corona, we might face a totally different reality with scarcity of food, no pensions, violence reaching its highest,  at least for a while.

It is at times like this, that one learns the true meaning of terms constantly misused and misunderstood by us such as: nation. territory, race, sustainability, superpower, climate, and many others.

We Can?!

Next month we enter the jewish New Year ׂׂ(5779ׁ) The period of preparations (starting mid-August) for the High Holidays, creates an atmosphere that always puts me in a pensive mood.

The era we live in, is full of 'we can' slogans: we can change the climate/the world/the planet/the human race...if only we'll do this or that.

Who's wePeople can hardly change a small personal bad habit like smoking, overeating, drugs, alcohol. It's sometimes incredible as even doctor's warnings won't do the trick.
So, where does this lack of humility come from? Bad education, I guess. The younger generations in particular are not fully aware of human limitations , and do a lot of 'we can'  talking, spreading empty slogans around.

Climate change, is here to stay , and that's very frightening. True, we still have the islands, we still control fires and famine, but the emphasis is on the word 'still'. We're approaching the abyss slowly but steadily, and we're quite helpless.

Air pollution is frequently mentioned in connection with climate change. Indeed, we should be fighting pollution with all the means at our disposal. It won't be easy , but it's possible, and we have to do it for the sake of our health and the health of the planet.

However, in my humble opinion, air pollution is but a small factor in this whole issue of climate change. Climate is the domain of a higher power; most of us refer to it as God, others as  Universe, Supernatural power, Nature. We, people, cannot control climate, only the higher power can, and this power seems to be angry with us. Not without reason.

Humans, have always been involved  in violating the rules and order of  Creation (by way of war, migration, slavery, colonialism, imperialism...the list is long); thus, making endless changes to the world, but changes which are Not accepted by God, not written in His book, and therefore not solvable in case of conflict, but rather swept under the carpet waiting for a spark to ignite the big fire.

We might be facing a world Reset in the future, When? No one knows .
We should  pray and ask for Mercy - that's all I can think of..

Need for Reconciliation

sunset (as seen at Poleg junction, Netanya)

What interests me in life is people and the workings of the human mind. Nature , with all its splendors, is but a background, not the protagonist on the stage of life.
I won't visit a country just for its golden beaches, mighty mountains , or the blooming of the cherry trees. There has to be something more than that to attract me, something that has to do with the spirit of mankind.

And yet, during the last few decades Nature is becoming more and more of the protagonist - in a negative sense -  through all those natural disasters that we encounter: fires, floodings, earthquakes, hurricanes, lava eruptions, drought etc...These disasters have sadly increased in number and intensity.

We treat nature badly, and she reacts accordingly. We could take it a few steps further and say that we treat the universe badly; we invented  'colonialism' and 'globality' which had greatly harmed the planet and its inhabitants. God, its creator, is furious. His universe was logically built, and we, the people, in our quest for progress and change are constantly destroying it.

Perhaps we could still do something about it, and stop the abrupt deterioration, but we need great minds for that. So far, there aren't any capable of leading us towards reconciliation with God and nature.
