Lara and Zara embracing Adagio

A few days ago, Phillip, a fellow blogger and british gentleman (Chronicle of a Croydon Boy} wrote an enthusiastic post about the belgian singer Lara Fabian, in which he expressed his love and admiration for the way she performed the song 'Caruso'.

Well, I had noticed her long before Phillip . It was after watching some videos with her performance of the song based on 'Adagio' by Tomaso Albinoni.

'Adagio' is a well known , fine classical piece of music. Dramatic lyrics have been attached to it to enable also vocalists to perform this gem. If you look it up in YouTube you'll see that italian young singers got hold of it and won't let it go. They appear with it in some sort of talent TV contest named "Amici di Maria de Filippi (friends of Maria....) , with a jury and an audience which consists of young people, friends of the contestants.

Watching the young singers on "
Amici ...." perform 'Adagio' can be frustrating; their voice is not ripe enough to handle such an intricate musical piece , and they lack confidence on the stage .
( Very nice try , though, of the finalists of the italian talent TV show Amici of recent years: Rita Comisi, Giulia Ottonello, Nicola Gargaglia ..).

....And then I came upon Lara Fabian. The way she sings and moves in all her live appearances, is hypnotizing. She's got it all: a great voice, a beautiful face, a perfect body, and.. plenty of talent. She's multilingual (french, italian, english) and is considered Star in Europe. There's also Zara, a singer of russian descent - good voice , gracious figure , nice performance. Still , Lara is the Best.

  1. Excellent. Thank you for sharing this. I don't pay much attention to what is going on musically today,as most of what comes over my car radio or the television is not worth listening to, and I don't search for anything else. But I love music that is good and well done as this piece is.

  7. Good morning, DUTA (well, it's morning here, I realize it is not where you are, so Good evening, DUTA!)

It's funny, I just came from Philip's blog, so that's twice this morning I've heard this young woman sing. What a talent! It is particularly surprising to see her sing sitting down. It takes someone with a truly remarkable voice to be able to pull that off because it does change the projection dynamic!

The oddest thought occurred to me as I watched, "My goodness, her parents must be so incredibly proud of her!"

I know, that's just a goofy thing to think, but I've often wondered what it is like to be the person in possession of such a tremendous gift. This morning, I ended up wondering what it must feel like to be the person who produced the person with such a gift!

As a parent, I also ended up amusing myself thinking of her at a young age, and you just know at one point one, or perhaps both of her parents ended up listening to her sing, and then tried to figure out if she was really as good as they thought. You know, overcoming that pride we all have in our children's accomplishments to realize that objectively, she's fantastic!

  9. Oh you've done it again, Duta! Introducing me to yet another YouTube session as I go looking for Lara Fabian. And this always seems to happen when I am in need of some light relief, so thankyou so much for this posting, and for the happy hour I have just spent getting to know this wonderful singer.

  10. Land of shimp,

As usual your language is mesmerizing.
You gave me an idea - to read her biography, see who her parents are. Parents usually know when their child is gifted; sometimes the teachers at school draw their attention to their child's outstanding talent for something.
Anyway, she's sure the pride of her entire family.
    Thanks.

  22. Cindy,

The music of Adagio is sad, it won't cheer you up when you're in a bad mood, but it can certainly be relaxing.

  26. When I'm on the computer, most of my time is spent on news sites covering world events, political blogs, etc. You have made me realize there's so much I'm missing. One can be informed in some areas, and completely ignorant in others. She is a great talent - beautiful voice and beautiful girl. We're so fortunate to be living in a time when so much of the world is at our fingertips. I must explore more. Thanks, Duta.

  27. Bica,
It's indeed amazing how much info we can get through the computer.
There's a lot to do on a computer, not only getting info, but also creating things. Me, for example, I like making slideshows with pictures and music background.

Wonderful invention the computer, only that it requires Time which we don't always have.
